About Me

Watch a video for my song A Warning To The Curious:

I make music for a slightly wistful, slightly sinister teddy bear's picnic. I am a one man band using a blend of layered vocals, acoustic guitar, glockenspiel and whatever else is at hand to create a warm, haunted world of harmonies, rhythms and loops to add flesh to the bones of my songs. But without a big drum on my back. Named after a misheard quote, influences include cinema, books and a range of music.

(all songs and drawings are my own original work. please don't steal them as they're my copyright)

Sounds Like: "A kooky, off-tune voice that gives him a unique edge...There's no question that God's Little Eskimo is a talented musician" - Mick Cooper, High Voltage, February 2009

"A delightful musicscape...seriously entertaining in a whimsical sort of way" - Sean Bruce, Sandman Magazine, January 2009

"You won't have heard anything like this, but rather than being niche and obtrusively experimental it genuinely works. It's a series of proper songs, just done in a completely different way that sounds incredibly musical. 8/10"- The Mag www.the-mag.me.uk, July 2008

"Magically endearing...8/10" - Kat Lister, Planet Sound Teletext, May 2008

"Gentle shimmers of sound that shiver into pools of beautiful melody and over it all, his measured vocal whipping out weary meanders. As fine a new folker as you’re going to hear." - Chris Long, BBC Manchester Music, www.bbc.co.uk/manchester, April 2008

"A superb way to happily soundtrack the disheartened - 4and a half out of 5, demo of the week" - JA, www.manchestermusic.co.uk, April 2008 (for the collected Ghost Stories EP)

"Johnny Restall, God's Little Eskimo's one man band with a bunch of instruments, some pencils and a nifty loop station, is a talent indeed." - www.highvoltage.org.uk, February 2008

"God's Little Eskimo is Johnny Restall's gratifyingly special formula to resolve any potential bleakness, with a wild mixture of stripped back, sparkling sounds. 4/5 - recommended" - www.manchestermusic.co.uk, January 2008 (for the Hooting EP)

"9/10; a rare talent and an astonishing voice" - Alistair Clay, Planet Sound Teletext, August 2007 (for the Fishing EP)

"A talented songwriter with sweet harmonies and a vocal range to suit every mood" - Koffee Pot Teatime Sessions Review, March 2007
