After discovering uk hardcore dance music in 1993 aged 13 i fell in love with the 4/4 beats! I am a self taught producer, dj and general noise maker My musical history can be dated back to loving Michael Jackson, jackson 5, old motown, paula abdul, Nenah Cherry as a 8/9 year old - god I use to love Buffalo stance - my first ever record that had swearing in it! I thought that was sooo fuckin cool - haha Then got my first hip hop tape aged 12 which was Ice Cube - Preditor which opened my eyes up to hardcore hip hop then onto snoop and dre and naughty by nature.. From then on in it was hip hop all the way, collected all the ice cube back catelogue and generally getting into the west coast sound which was so popular at the time.. The was i was 14 nearly 15 somebody gave me a DJ SLIPMATT tape recorded live at Club Kinetic - Stoke on Trent! Suddendly my whole musical landscape changed, I'd always been aware of house and techno but never fully investiaged other than hearing it on local radio.. but when i heard this tape it blew my mind! I still have it now.. naturally on MP3 and the far better quality than the tape of a tape of a tape that it was back then. MC Ruff from the prodigy was MC ing on it and I remember telling my best mates.. 'its like.. got hip hop rapping on it (this was the MC) and these craxy beats and just keeps going on and on.. A New Obsession was born!!
Went on to fully submerse myself in the hardcore music of the time.. collecting anything and everything to do with club kinetic.. then purchased Dreamscape 20!! - a classic tape pack from summer 1995 which showcased the house, hardcore, jungle and techno of the time brilliantly well. The hardcore obsession lead me into (mainly through dreamscape 20) Jungle / Drum and bass - 1995 was a brilliant year for this genre.. the time before techstep but also the time when the real devide had started to accurr in Hardcore/jungle.. the jungle guys kept the breakbeats.. the hardcore heads went full on into 4*4 kick drums! Personally my favourite time is around 1994 when the cross over was still there.. you cant beat those fast break beats.. but then the odd kick drum tune use to really bring alot to a set and then obviously you cant beat a good piano in the 'correct circumstances' So bascially all through school 4th and 5th year (year 10 & 11 for the kids) i was a hardcore / jungle nut and spent most of my lessons listening to my pride and joy! my panasonic walkman - very fancy it was too! (to be continued..) (to be continued..) Highly inspired by all things 80's and enjoy poetry/songwriting which i aim to use on my music in the future.. For now though make everything from v stompy trance/hard house (which is great fun to make) through to more more housey sounds
Really enjoy making beats and love the power of strings! Discovering new sounds all the time and encourage you to have a listen.
