Sam Dickey

About Me

20-year-old guitarist finishing up at berklee. hope you enjoy the music. Sam Dickey first started playing guitar at ten while growing up in Redding, CA. Sometime during the next several years spent strumming mangled chords and playing in garage bands, Sam began to study jazz, as well as many other styles including rock, funk, and West African folk music. After winning numerous soloist and composition awards and playing in the SFJAZZ All-Star High School Band and the Monterey Next Generation Jazz Orchestra, Sam enrolled at the Berklee College of Music where he studied with Hal Crook, Dave Santoro, Mick Goodrick, Tim Miller, Dave Tronzo, and Rick Peckham. During his time at Berklee, Sam performed with many top student groups and ensembles, gave the closing performance on Guitar Night 2007, and was presented with the Guitar Department Achievement Award. Sam’s performances have taken him to both coasts as well as Italy and Croatia with shows at the Umbria Jazz Festival, the Dubrovnik Summer Festival, the Monterey Jazz Festival, the Jazz Standard, Sweet Rhythm, the Jazzschool, and the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts. Artists Sam has performed with include Joshua Redman, Erik Jekabson, John Ellis, Luciana Souza, Peter Epstein, Kurt Elling, Matt Morrish, and Mike Zilber. He can be seen (and heard) performing frequently both in California and the Northeast with his own trio, as well as with groups led by Matt Morrish, Cara Dineen, Aaron Bahr, and many others.
