Powder Kegs

About Me

Sam McDougle (drums), Daniel Zane (guitars and vocals) and Ryan Dieringer (keys, basses, and vocals) played string band music together in New York City (yep, go figure) from when they were kids up to the point when they were making a living at it, playing up and down the eastern coast on street corners, in bars, clubs, and at festivals. In the spring of 2007 they were invited to perform live on Garrison Keillor's 'A Prairie Home Companion' as finalists in its "People in Their 20's" contest and they won.
After that they went into full time writing mode, plugged in their instruments, and released "You and Your Right Now," recorded with Jeremy Backofen, producer of albums by The Felice Brothers, The Walkmen, Frightened Rabbit, & Mice Parade. The Powder Kegs now live and play rock and roll music in Burlington, VT. They are currently experimenting with newer noises, playing shows, and working on a new E.P
"...a remarkable thing has emerged: one of the finer local(ish) pop-rock groups in recent memory. And the irrefutable evidence of that marvelous transformation is You and Your Right Now."
Seven Days
"...a starry eyed trio reminiscent of My Morning Jacket and Band of Horses."
Vermont Cynic, UVM student newspaper
"The Powder Kegs have become something of local lore simply due to the fact that they were killing it as a string band, and up and decided that its not what they wanted to do. SO they decided to switch instruments and write songs that made them happy to play. And, they made a great album at that.
Angioplasty Media, Blog
"They just have the most life and energy. They're amazing."
Garrison Keillor
