Average Joe was formed in late 2000 by Mike Clay & Scott Hittner - two guys who had played together previously in another band. When that band had broken up, the two began writing their own music, with Hittner on drums and Clay on guitar. After awhile, Randy Kapple joined the two on bass, and the creativity continued. 14 songs later, all they needed was a vocalist. Johnny Whicker was added in spring of 2001, after his previous band had also dissolved. Each member of the group have had years of experience performing in other bands some of those include Tyrant, Vision, Happyness, Mister Slate and Hired Guns. Scott, with some help from the band and his brother Kirk, built a recording studio in the basement of his house. Recording began in the summer of 2002, with Hittner doing all of the engineering. Today's technology has made it possible to produce a high-quality finished product 10 songs full of heart, determination and love. The songs take you through a range of emotions, most of them taken from personal experiences from within the group. The songs have already gotten airplay at a few radio stations in the area. Soon after the completion of the album, Randy Kapple left the group, and was replaced by Johnny Fox, who left a few years later, to be replaced by Rick Robinson. The band has been performing live for five years, putting every ounce of energy into their show. Their choice of songs will have you out of your seat, dancin' the night away, beggin' for more. Their stage presence will leave you feeling like you're at a good old fashioned rock show. You may have seen them at the Ottumwa Balloon Races, the State Line Rally in Keosauqua, or at several nightclubs in the Southeast Iowa area. After saving up enough money from their shows, they sent their finished product off to be professionally mastered and duplicated by a company on the east coast. The band plans to shop their product to A&R personnel, radio promoters and agencies dealing with original music for movies and television.
