I am often asked what a painting or drawing means, and where I find my inspiration. People always want a simple, quick answer.
If I paint or draw an image, it was inspired by something that I saw in nature or in life and rearranged through my own creative/imaginative thought process. I may be creating new imagery, but not the subject matter from where it came itself.
I prefer that the viewers become "co-interpreters" of my work, and find their own ideas and meanings within it.
Sometimes when I am painting or drawing I see the image precisely in my mind, and basically reproduce the image as if my mind had already placed it on the paper or canvas.
Other times I have absolutely no idea what is going on or what will happen next and must remind myself to be humble while I continue learning.
And lastly, at times, I fall into a hypnotically-focused state as I work and "re-awake" when the session is finished. This is often the most relaxing form of my work.
