Movies:

The most recent movie I have seen is The Departed. Great movie!! No spoilers here, but highly recommended. Scorsese is still such an incredible director!I was really getting into horror films when I had more free time (though "free time" seems to be but a distant memory now). I am fascinated by the presentation of fear and/or death in several media (*nerd*). It's the same with war movies.A lot of my favorite movies are really just odd movies. It seems like the stranger the premise, the more I like it... Fightclub, Buffalo 66, Eternal Sunshine, Heathers, Stranger than Fiction, American Beauty, Pi, Rushmore, Dead Man, Bringing Out the Dead, Little Miss Sunshine, general weirdness and twisted perspective.... I am especially into the old twilight zone series for the same reasons (does tv count here?).

Television:

I love cartoons! Adult Swim (especially the Squidbillies, The Oblongs, and Moral Orel), the Simpsons, Southpark, etc. I even like a few I never would have expected... the Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy is hilarious! Beyond cartoons... I watch Jeopardy religiously but I never know when anything else is on, nor do I care all that much.

Books:

There are two books that changed my life when I was young: The Fountainhead (Rand) and Of Human Bondage (Maugham). Otherwise, I just have favorite writers, the top of which is Bertrand Russell. Add to him... Jean-Paul Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir, Martin Heidegger, Michel Foucault, Ernest Becker, Friedrich Nietzsche (ignoring the contemporary sexism), Clifford Geertz, Antonio Gramsci, Matt Ridley, Steven Pinker, Paul Eckman, Helen Fisher, Ayn Rand, Sylvia Plath, Rumi, TS Eliot, Charles Bukowski, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henrik Ibsen, Oscar Wilde, Aldous Huxley, Thomas Paine... the list could go on forever. Oh, and I love Shakespeare and have read a ridiculous amount of his work. I think it's because we (supposedly) share the same birthday. ;)

Heroes:

My mother, step father, brother, undergraduate advisors, and several of my close friends have been incredibly inspirational to me over the years. They are all strong, intelligent, kindhearted, and amazing individuals and I am grateful and fortunate to have had these people touch my life.And...Buckminster Fuller who, at the age of 32 and on the verge of suicide, decided at the last moment instead to embark on "an experiment, to find what a single individual can contribute to changing the world and benefiting all humanity." I find this inspiring.
