About Me
Check out the Funk on this record. You won't be dissappointed!
The whole cd features the work of The Band, (Rick, Dave & Dre) plus "Special Guests" The Harris Brothers Horns, but there is also a whole array of other guest stars...Tory Ruffin of the Time, Fred Clark of EnVogue, Randy Jacobs of The Boneshakers (Was not Was & Bonnie Raitt), Jazz Saxophonist Warren Hill, Guitarist Jeff Golub (Rod Stewart), Danielle LoPresti of Danielle Lopresti & The Masses, Keyboardist Brian Simpson (Janet Jackson) to name a few...We feel as though the 60's was a special time in music. Music not only was free and creative, but to have your own individual sound was a requirement. If you sounded remotely like anyone else, you would not be successful because to be a copycat was not acceptable. There was one Led Zepplin, one Sly & the Family Stone, one Black Sabbath, one Temptations, one James Brown, one Funkadelic, one Deep Purple, one Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. The list is endless. Now with the internet leveling the playing field of the ability to get new music distributed, the people have a choice once again of what they listen to. This is a magical time! No longer are we subjected to the musical "cookie cut" artist quotas the big labels feed us. You know what I mean. N'sync gets success so every label gets their boy band to make money. Not knocking the boys but, they weren't the only music on the block..Now, we can try the flavors we choose. We are exposed to more and only limited by how much we want to experiment and how long we want to seek and find! The 60's were special in another way. The songs not only were great to listen to and feel but at times they had potent things to talk about. War, Poverty, Injustice, Racism, Our Government, Our differences, Our troubles, and it wasn't a depressing thing and it need not be now. It was inspiring. It made things better. It made us aware. Where is the "What's goin on?" the "War, what is it good for" the "Mercy mercy me", the "4 dead in Ohio" the "Southern Man" the "R-E-S-P-E-C-T". See we believe that you can talk about these things and it not be depressing. We believe you can talk about these things and not be afraid. Afraid of what a government or big record label or radio station might or might not do to or for you. See..with the internet we are once again free. Free to speak, free to write, free to rally. We are at war for these freedoms right? So it is our right to exercise them. Rather than getting depressed or fearful to execise these rights we can allow it to be uplifting because we can party and be socially aware at the same time. Most times the music the big labels feed us "had better not be too heavy...gotta keep it light and fun for the kids, you gotta dumb it down" we were told. But we believe they underestimate us. We believe that they need not water down our music, because we can party and shake out fists for a cause at the same time. We can party and jump up and down and rally at the same time. They underestimate us. On this record, "Fried Knuckle Sammich" we wanted to punch the big labels right in the mouth and prove them wrong. We wanted to punch the establishment right in the mouth with a "Fried Knuckle Sammich" and say, "Don't underestimate us!!" We can be funky, rockin' , black, white, red, or brown, young, old, blonde, brown nappy or fair. Don't pigeonhole us. Don't limit the amount of freedom we can exercise. We can party and be informed and intelligent at the same time. You don't need to "Dumb anything down" for us. So on this cd we put out hearts into each every note and wanted it to be a record that was not only fun, that you could listen to from start to finish but also had it's informative moments too! We are out to show the world that you can party hard, and at the same time be socially conscious. We want to be a part of the movement to make people aware & active thru music once again. So show your support, and show them wrong. Support independent music...level the playing field. Take the power out of big corporate control. Peas & Bacon Grease..Dre of DFFS
