DIRTY COCKTAIL was born in '05 as the next progressive step from FIVE GREEN BOTTLES and SOURJACK (Other members of those bands forming SUNDAY CLUB). Guitarist brothers Liam and Ben Sargent, along with bassist Benj Ellard & drummer Richard Chamberlain worked for a year writing instrumental tracks whilst waiting for the right vocalist to come along (and auditioning many of the wrong ones!) The solid musical bond between the four was perfectly tuned. Liam and Ben's dual guitar work and roaring solos were met by the adventurous bass lines laid out by Benj and held together by the rhythmical intricacies of Rich. There was just one thing missing...
In early '06, BLACKLIST frontman Stefan Elliott joined the fold and completed the five piece line up. The new feel and creative flow within the band came naturally, and the new material greatly reflected that. The good time rock and roll vibe of the music was partnered with a lyrical maturity and depth that seemed to fit beautifully. Shining examples of that being 'Sorry', 'Hate You (If I Could)', 'Shoot Me Down', and sing-along favorite 'Step Back'. Stefan had brought to the band a well needed front image that portrayed depth and excitement.
However, this transition did not come without its complexities. Stefan was undergoing intensive chemotherapy, so rehearsals and shows had to be scheduled for times when he was not too sick to perform. On occasion the strain showed when he'd pass out in rehearsal, and once almost on stage at a live show. It was through sheer determination and a 'never say die' attitude along with the support and understanding of fellow band mates that DIRTY COCKTAIL fought through and overcame the evident obstacle of the singer's cancer.
Now, the five piece hard rock act based in Leicestershire continue to work hard creating music to keep people on their feet throughout a show, with equally as much energy going into the performance. Despite anything standing in their way, DIRTY COCKTAIL have been determined to offer a rapidly expanding audience rock and roll the way it should be.
