The Elf began experimenting with live electronic one-take music in 1998 in eastern Pennsylvania under the name The Gary Goblins. By broadcasting demos at The Elf's day job & distributing some demos to friends, The Elf decided to make an EP on his own home based recording label, FaBam! Recording. In 2001, The Gary Goblins released the EP "The Great Gimmick in the Sky" & a full length experimental album entitled "Visual Plantation". With the money generated from the mediocre local sales of the debut CD's, The Elf purchased some new equipment & began work on a 3rd Gary Goblins adventure that would come to be known as "Burn". With its bouncy electro-dance experimentation's & its subliminal messages to a post 9/11 world, 2002's "Burn" became the best selling Gary Goblins album to date.2002 also saw the release of a limited edition 2CD set called "Autopsies From the Abyss". "Autopsies" featured 20 "chock-full of negativity" songs ranging in sound anywhere from EBM to Techno to experimental spoken word reminiscent of old Throbbing Gristle. "Autopsies" was the last Gary Goblins album to utilize the live one-take philosophy as well."You're life is like the weather, always changing" was the motto going into the production of 2003's album "Meteorology". Besides a lot of changes in life for The Elf, there were also many changes in recording theory as well. Keeping with the tradition of "No repeat, improvisational" music, but now utilizing multi-track studio equipment & computer software enhancements, The Elf laid the foundation for "Meteorology". The end result was 12 emotion-filled dance tracks including the memorable single "El Nino".2004 was a very busy year for The Gary Goblins. During this time period The Elf began work on a hard-electro/EBM album, yet was also experimenting with analog, ambient soundscapes as well. Since these 2 styles didn't seem to mesh together well as 1 recording, the EBM styled work became the 6th Gary Goblins release entitled "The Slaughterhouse Spectacle" & the ambient work became the first Gary Goblins "side-project" entitled "Still Life" by The Elf. Both albums were released in mid 2005. "The Slaughterhouse Spectacle" is the first Gary Goblins release to have sold outside of The United States with the aid of www.dmusic.com.As 2005 came to a close, The Elf was busy with promoting his music on www.dmusic.com as well as finishing up on another EP entitled "The Photography of Sound" Being that a lot of the studio equipment being used for the EP was new to The Elf's studio, the EP took on a very naive approach & the end result was a unique sound experiment reminiscent of the early days of The Gary Goblins. "The Photography of Sound" was released in February 2006."Success was never the driving force behind The Gary Goblins, artistic & emotional freedom is what I represent. I believe that almost anyone can go into a studio & follow a recipe as to how you make a "hit". I do not want to be famous or rich. I do not care if I have to rot at a lifeless day job for eternity, I will never break who I am & what I stand for in exchange for commercialism. Being hindered by how someone else feels you should behave will always extinguish the creative flame.
