She sits patiently, perched upon the dim lit stage. Her acoustic guitar is warm and at the ready. A slight air of nervousness is apparent. That is, until she confidently begins her first song. It is at that very moment you observe the true and honest heart of Kellie Marie.
To her side sit a brooding guitarist and bubbly keyboardist, while nestled in the back is a quiet drummer and bassist; already there is a juxtaposition of elements. Together they form The Modern, but don’t be fooled by the somewhat scramble of sorts. It is this very mixture of musical influence that has helped shaped Kellie Marie, and led her toward a very mature and palatable pop sound.
Her music is smooth, terribly sincere and heartfelt, touching on subjects that many can relate to. At one moment you could mistake her for being a cheesy-pop songstress, but then the mood will change and in an instant she will deliver very somber, serious instrumentals, coloured by wonderful vocal hooks and inflections that only Kellie Marie knows how.
Influenced by the likes of Sarah Blasko, Something for Kate, and Katie Noonan to name a few; Kellie Marie can be described as a having a rockin’ pop sound, though one must not discount the very obvious acoustic element; the true essence behind her musical ventures.
Kellie Marie has already been fortunate to support some fine musical pedigree such as Abby Dobson, Sarah McLeod, Mental As Anything, Ian Moss and Diesel. Having already achieved such success in only a short space of time, there is no doubt that Kellie Marie is on the way up.
