Even as a child ¡BANG-La-Desh¡ had dreams of kicking up her heels. The spotlight has always been a comfortable place for her. A natural dancer, she began performing at age 2, later making her on stage debut at age 6 and continuing dancing with bells on throughout her early teens. By age 13, her popularity as a member of the Bangladesh Institute of Performing Arts (BIPA), began to worry her parents. Limelight-focused, the young starlet soon began appearing at schools, concert halls and on local television featuring Bengali-inspired music. In the mix since 86, she arrived stateside from her native Dacca, Bangladesh to new digs in Brooklyn, New York, ¡BANG¡(as she is called by cohorts) knew that she had to speak out to be heard. Having grown up in a traditional Bengali setting her urban expeditions were often met with culture shock. I come from a family that has a strong sense of heritage, cultural pride and tradition,¨ says Shumaya ¡BANG¡ who has since adopted the moniker ¡BANG-La-Desh¡ in homage to her homeland. Growing up my parents stressed academics and still believes there is no deviation from the path to excellence in accomplishing great things. That strict upbringing and strong work ethic pushed the bright and beautiful young woman to enter college at age 16. In 1996, while walking to class a casting agent for a video shoot invited her to a set of a Hip Hop Video n the Hamptons, there began her love affair with the business of Hip Hop. When I visited the office and saw the energy of these young people making inroads doing what they were passionate about, I knew I found my calling, she reflects. Of course, her parents forbade her from appearing in the video, but she knew that this would not be the last time they would hear about that loud music. This did not sit too well with her parents who continued to stress book knowledge over beats, Ebonics and tales of chronic, so she resorted to keeping her rap life on the down low. Over the course of the next few years she continued to pursue and express her artistic freedom by writing, appearing in a slew of performance gigs, modeling for print, extra in film and video garnering her well-earned around-the-way rep as the "Bangn Indian-girl." The stares of attention become hard not to notice when your the only Indian Chic in a freestyle rap cipher. Yes, it is a Bangn-visual!- says KRS 1 Through her many connections beyond her expect social circles she took the business of the music industry seriously. Laying the framework for her brainchild, BANG Incorporated forward-focused company that reflecting universal musical influence throughout the entertainment industry.
