RACE the STRIP, NOT the STREETS

About Me

The Philippine Drag Racing Federation, now known as the PHILIPPINE DRAG RACING FAMILSPORT CO. (PDRF) was formed in October 1992 to promote drag racing as a SAFE and FUN- FILLED motorsport. The PDRF, now on its tenth year of continuous service to the drag race enthusiasts, is recognized by the US “National Hot Rod Association”. The NHRA, formed in the early ‘50s by Wally Parks (who was said to be the first American GI stationed in the country to stuff in a V8 in a jeep) is the appointed world drag racing body by the FIA. Locally, PDRF is recognized by the DILG, PNP-Traffic Management Group and MMDA as the longest running legal drag racing body in the country. The NHRA started coordinating and assisting the PDRF since 1994, thru its then International Relations Director Melvyn Record. He was replaced in 1998 by Ms Desiree Rowland. Also, assisting the PDRF in rules and technical matters is Jim Skelly, Technical Communications Director (please see attached communications). Also, in 1994, in accordance with NHRA’s global campaign, PDRF launched the “RACE THE STRIP, NOT THE STREETS” drive, in cooperation with the PNP-TMG, aimed at encouraging young drivers to refrain from illegal street racing and to provide them a safe venue for drag racing. Also, in that year, the “NO TO DRUGS, YES TO DRAGS” campaign was launched by PDRF.Cognizant of the PDRF’s determination and dedication to promote legal drag racing, the late Conrado Ayuyao, president of the Philippine Motor Association (PMA, now known as Automobile Association of the Phils., AAP), commissioned the PDRF to introduce the “Elapsed Time (et) Bracket Drag Racing” with the aid of an electronic timing system (Port-A-Tree National Event 6-sensor system)Having an electronic timing system is extremely important to any drag racing organization. For one thing, it makes for a more fair and reliable judge for the contest. People tend to question other people rather than high tech equipment. This extremely eliminates the “human factor” in close races and the ensuing arguments, as in the “traditional system”. This also instills confidence among the participants and the organizers. With an electronic timing system, a larger field of racers can be created. It also increases the number of competitors, as well as the types of cars. The event becomes more interesting not only for the drag racers but also for the racing fans.In 1999. the Landtrade Properties & Management Corp., agreed to provide PDRF a safer venue for all its quarter-mile drag race events --- the MANILA HARBOUR CENTRE Dragway. It is located at the Manila North Harbor area along R-10, Vitas, Tondo, Manila. Actual race events are conducted at MHC’s Road G, which is 1.3 kilometers long (more than the NHRA specified length of 1,000 meters). The MHC has enough space to safely and conveniently accommodate more than 1,000 cars and 10,000 spectators.PDRF Website

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Quick VIII Heads-up (“Pro start” heads-up system is used in this class to start the race, where all three amber floodlights in a driver’s lane flash simultaneously before the green light comes on. The “Pro start” system runs with .400-second difference between the amber and green light.) Sportsman PRO eliminator class Since 2003, PRO and Sportsman Classes have been combined into just one class due to poor showing or participation in the past years. Sportsman PRO bracket eliminator class now runs 10.00 to 13.99 seconds (12.99 before) but divided into 4 divisions. HOT STREET Bracket class HOT Street bracket class now runs 14.00 seconds (14.50 before) to 15.99. This class is reserved for the serious hobby racers (mostly college students) with streetable cars but with mild-to-wild engine modifications such as Civic sedans or coupes, Toyota Jeepsters, turbo/supercharged Lancers, Toyotas, all-motor Chevys and Mustangs, etc. STREET STOCK Bracket Class The Street STOCK bracket class still runs 16.00 seconds and slower. It is the entry level class designed and reserved for beginners competing with showroom stock cars, diesel-powered cars included, with modifications or none at all. Top-16 Winner-take-all Bracket TOP 16 “Winner-Take-All” Bracket Racing was introduced last year. This is a special class with handicapped runs reserved only for the top or quickest 16 cars of the Event. Breakout rule is in effect. Qualifiers may waive their right to participate in favor of whoever is next in line. Second chance runs for First Round losers are given at the discretion of the PDRF and/or Sponsor/s. Additional Entry fee is P500 only.
