Bishop doesn’t hold anything back when asked about how he sees himself fitting in to the world of Hip Hop. “I’m the underdog. I know this. I’m a 23 year old Persian rapper from Maryland and I already know it doesn’t get more different than that, but I like my chances.†The new-comer is more than aware about the challenges he will face, “At the same time I know those same differences set me apart from all the other artists in the game right now and it will get me a lot of ears that want to hear me and hear what I’m about. When my time comes I’m going to have the game on smash, I won’t stop until I do.â€
What may seem like an over-confident statement, The Maryland native’s endless talent and strives for perfection undoubtedly give him a chance at becoming successful and walking the talk. “I feel like I have something to prove. My music speaks for itself because I put my heart and soul into each record, whatever I’m feeling… but I’m also smart about it. I don’t make records that only me or my friends would like, I make records that everyone else will like too because at the end of the day record sales matter.†Bishop is already taking steps in the right direction at a young age. He’s already created a heavy buzz for himself with a performance opening for Kanye West at a packed Kelis Café in Washington D.C., hiphophavoc.com’s artist of the month honors, a featured artists on xclusivetrax.com, and having a top 10 single on xclusivetrax’s Sprint Radio Station just to name a few.
The fresh-faced rapper takes heavy influence from lyrical artists such as Jay-Z, Lil Wayne and Joe Budden blended with the delivery of a Biggie, Tupac, or T.I. His lighthearted delivery and witty punch lines both appeal to his audience and gain the respect of his music industry peers at the same time. Bishop has collaborated with many artists, both within and outside of the Maryland/DC area and is excited about the potential of his home state. “We have a lot of talent in this area which is being overlooked. I feel like go-go music is the focus here, and because of that label, other artists may not get their proper due. Nothing against go-go music, I love go-go… but I think we have a lot more to offer than just that one genre of music and artists and I want to open people’s eyes up to that.†With buzz-heavy R&B artist from the area such as Raheem Devaughn and J. Holiday taking center stage recently, Bishop may be in a position to blow the MD/DC hip hop scene wide open. “I just need somebody to take that chance on me and there’s no doubt in my mind I’ll show everybody what I can do.
