Im originally from Philadelphia, Pennslyvania. I grew up not knowing what I was going to do with my life until I met filmmaking. At the end of my 8th grade year of middles school I was introduce to the YOC (Youth Opportunity Center). At this program, they provided jobs activities, training, etc. Having no money, I took advantage of the opportunity. There were advisors at this program that placed the students into these paid classes. So I had some but so little choice on what class I wanted to take. By me being young and broke. Lol. Money was the only thing that captured my attention. I was placed into this video production class. The first few weeks there was intensed writing. Just getting out of school for the summer and going to a program to write definitely wasn't the ideal way I attended to spend my summer. So I stuck with the class because I received my first check for $87.50. Plus the instructors were cool. A couple of weeks later we were giving cameras to shoot our own little short film. By me being computer and tech savvy, I knew I was going to like this class. So I shot the film and then we were asked to edit the film. The editing process I also enjoyed. Making your ideas come to life as a movie picture was the best thing that ever happened to me. I stuck with the class the entire summer. Did some more training through the school year for 2 more years. Eventually, I was hired to an instructor when I turned 17. I was teaching kids my age video production and filmmaking. So, I taught video production for about 7 years of my life. I've also done dozens of documentaries in this program. I entered them into film festivals and won awards. I let my mom have the awards. lol. This video production class allowed me to travel to Barbados 3 times to teach youth. What a great experience for me. Last but no the least, all this allowed me to move to California to pursue my dreams. I moved to Califronia at the end of 2006. I had 500 dollars to my name. Got an apartment which was'nt so easy. Started my own production company OnTheReel Producions LLC. Every since I've managed to work on some great projects. Everyone has a dream. If you believe in yourself, take that leap of faith.
