Influences:
Red IDentity
Red Identity is the result of two minds making music through inspiration, talent, and smoke. Red ID fashions itself as the Boom Bap Hip-Hop equivalent to the Marcus Garvey Black Star Line Movement of the 60s. Emcee/Poets Curly Castro (aka Obsidian) and King Geoffree (aka Inglish) have set upon a Movement Of Music and want the public to take heed. Originating from Brooklyn and Jamaica they have arrived in Philly to resurrect a Boom-Bap riot and bring some NU SOUND to a dying scene. "Work our own schemes, take shots of Quicksilver/ Microhone feins done turned SQUADZILLA!!!!!!!!!"
Just Greg
Pathological truthseeker, Just Greg has been writing and performing spoken word for the last four years of his eternal life lighting up stages on an international level from South Carolina to South Africa, London to Canada. This Philadelphia native and Lincoln University Alum began writing in his sophomore year after deciding to follow the footsteps of fellow Lincoln grads Langston Hughes, Oscar Brown, and the unclaimed Gil Scott Heron. His thoughts broadcast across the airwaves with an unconquerable truth that is delivered in a unique and passionate style with a sense of urgency that could reawaken the desperation of the fifties, the movement of the sixties, the rebellion of the seventies, the strength of the eighties, the solidarity of the nineties, and the much needed solutions of today. This socially and politically involved artist writes with limitless potential about controversial topics ranging from religion to the politics of education, from the politics of love to the lack of parenting in todays society. "Welcome to SquadZilladelphia! May we help ya?/ This the city of brotherly love, where brotherly thugs spill brotherly blood./ Only thing thicker,.. is the paint creating murals stating 'In Memory Of'......
ETHEL CEE
Ethel Cee is one of the most innovative emcees out in the underground today. She is a fierce lyricist with a distinct voice and flow reminscent of the femme fatales of earlier years such as Salt N Pepa, and Rah Digga. She has even been compared male counterparts such as Plug One and Mos Def who is one of her personal faves. She is creating a sound that she can call her own by blending diverse genres in her music that have always spoken to her soul such as house, drum and bass and jazz. Ethel Cee is currently working on her first solo EP to present to a quality-starved hip hop community and splitting time between occasionally rocking stages with her fellow Squadzilla fam Red ID,writing and collaborating with eager producers searching for a fresh muse."Got the gift of gab/ touch o' gold from my grip/ foes touch they toes/ I suppose that's the pose they assume for shows/ Such as mine...".
Rah the Sun God
Only an object as powerful and omnipresent as the sun can be used to describe Rah the Sun God. A self-taught music master, Rah became interested in music at the age of 2, wearing out his father's old jazz and soul albums. Since then, he moved on to master over 6 instruments and become fluent in numerous musical genres. With this elaborate arsenal of technical and spiritual skill, the Sun God is one of the most demanded bassists in the Philadelphia area, playing for and directing more than a dozen artists and groups on the east coast and abroad. As the lone musician in Squadzilla, Rah leads bands for all members of Squadzilla, keeping live shows innovative and eclectic without sacrificing the rawness and grit of true hip-hop. Further stretching the abilities of one entity, extends himself into the realms of mixing, production, and rekindling his emcee background. Like the Sun in the sky, Rah brings light and life to everything he surveys...
The One Sun Lion Ra
"When I say Hip Hop, y'all say I love, Hip Hop!"...
The One Sun Lion Ra born and raised in New York City and spending a significant amount of his life in Los Angeles and North Carolina has no artistic limits especially when it comes to his music. Combine that with the fact that he is the son of
Lou Wilson eldest of the four Wilson brothers from the group Mandrill and you can expect nothing less than insane heat and intense passion when it comes to Ra's brand of Hip Hop and Spoken Word. Ra has performed all over the east and west coasts as well as overseas exhibiting his skills in the art of emceeing, beat-boxing, and performing spoken word poetry. "Real Hip Hop for Real Hip Hop heads", remains his credo, but perhaps a more fitting phrase for the flavor The One Sun Lion Ra brings would be, "Real Messages for Real People".
AMBUSH
As far back as I could remember it's always been about the music, and keeping the people moving from the basement to the club. Emcee by discipline, DJ by trade, mulitasker by default. With the years I've spent in the biz as a DJ, I can say with confidence that I know what people wanna hear. And I can recognize the face people make when they hear some ole bullshit. What motivates me? The goosebumps and chills I get at rehearsal when someone spits that brand new shit. I've seen alotta crews start out great then hit that brick wall. Squadzilla put a window, door and laid a ladder up against that wall. Now we're at that next level, the worldwide stage and the only thing thats counts is if you rocked it! It feels good to be with an organization that has that 'by any means necessary' attitiude that I've based my career on. This was suppossed to be my personal bio but if you're on this page, you know what it is mang. I'm SQUADZILLA even when I'm by myself. " Remove any doubt about my next corse of action/ beatboxes & backspins don't pay the bills./ These days I spend at this job is keepin' me ill/ & finances meager."
