I normally don't refer to myself in the third person, this is a short bio written about me for a photo exhibit I was in.Bert Sanchez has been a photographer for twenty years. His passion first developed in the 5th grade when he took an after school photography class. He took many photos during high school, but didnt take photography very seriously then. However, when he finished high school and enrolled at East Los Angeles College in Monterey Park, he narrowed his focus and took all photography classes, studying there for two years. There he learned all the basics of photography and how to work with various types and formats of cameras.Berts first real camera was a Minolta 7000 with a 50mm lens. He shoots all digital now but occasionally works with 35mm SLR's or his medium format Mamiya. After college he found work at local photography studios shooting portraits of babies and families, keeping him focused on photography. It taught him the business side of photography and it helped him refine his composition and lighting skills. It also taught him how to work with people and find the patience for the right shot.On the weekends and in his free time Bert takes pictures of the life around him, the city, his friends and his family.

What interests me the most about photography is capturing a moment in time. I want to force the viewer to stop and see the moment they missed, to hear their interpretations, and to digest it with all the other comments. Its fascinating to me and I believe it helps me grow as an artist. Currently, I find myself shooting historical signs and abstract city dwellings. The results are sometimes haunting, always solid, and isolating.I usually dont know why I choose the subjects I pick. I'm simply drawn to them. I can only explain my interest through the finished product.
