represent a young man who is determined to make his mark. An individual who
upon being compared to legends such as Curtis Mayfield and Ronald Isley
does not back down, but stands up to the praise…ladies and gentleman let
me introduce you to Majic Massey.
Born and raised in Chicago, Majic was immersed in music from birth and
was practically humming by age 1, which may seem amazing and
unbelievable, until you discover that he was winning talent shows and singing in
his local Church from the tender age of 2. Needless to say this 23 year
old had music in his soul before he could even utter a complete word
and that inborn desire is what made him who he is today, a storyteller
who can weave a tale that touches everyone.
Growing up he was able to blend into all that is Chicago and intertwine
all that he witnessed firsthand into lyrics of life. His music is the
story of the streets without any sugarcoating or artificial happy
endings, his music is as real as he is and this is what keeps him grounded
and what eventually got him signed by Plugged Entertainment, Inc.
Unfortunately how he finally reached that chapter in his life brings about a
dark time in Majic’s life and the heartbreaking loss of his close
friend, Kato.
Kato owned a local record label out of Chicago called Dinero Records
and he took Majic under his wing. With Kato in his corner Majic spent
most of his free time at the label soaking in everything that happened at
the recording studio. All these experiences in and out of the studio
developed and strengthened a solid friendship that helped Majic keep his
dream alive…until that terrible day that Kato was gunned down. That day
he felt all his dreams died along with his close friend and Majic
basically shut down.
Tragedy changes people down to their soul. The difference in everyone
is how it affects them and how they handle such life changing
situations. Majic was changed and he did withdraw but with the help and support
from friends and especially Kato’s widow, Valerie, he along with Valerie
both gained inspiration. This in turn led to Majic returning full force
to writing again and Valerie creating Plugged Entertainment, Inc.
Eventually this collaboration led to them working together and soon Majic
was ready for the next step of his career.
Along with backing from Gaby Acevedo, president of SRC, they with
several top producers including Kanye West, Swiss Beatz and David Banner
created an arsenal of music that quickly got interest from several labels
including Universal. After a flurry of meetings that included Doug
Morris, Mel Lewinter, Sylvia Rhone and Steve Rifkind, Universal quickly won
them over and signed Majic as a priority artist on their label; Majic’s
dreams are finally set to take off.
Majic is a talented songwriter and how he interprets his experiences
will allow him to shine through and bond with everyone who listens to his
music. His lyrics will let him connect with people from all walks of
life “from the church to the streets†and they will remember when they
were first introduced to the gifted storyteller…Majic Massey.
