About Me
DJ Red & Stealth Recordings UKIn 1993 Red had his first release under the name Indica Drums called “Beats from Bosnia†- an up tempo break beat stormer released on the front cover of NME Magazine.
However it was at South London labels Trouble On Vinyl and Renegade Hardware that his ability in the studio was recognized and his reputation was earned. Early in his career he crafted the pile drivers ‘Devastate’, ‘Mad PLO’, ‘Mode One’, ‘Enta Da Dragon’, ‘Energize’, ‘Killahurtz’ and remixed for Mos Def, Kool Keith and Dub Pistols working as the sole DnB remixer for renowned rap label Rawkus Records USA . His work dented the bass-bins of clubs worldwide, a fact reflected in his press and in his DJ bookings. Reds illustrious DJ’ing career has seen him play at Fabric, The End, Scala and on BBC Radio One , Kiss FM and Kool FM. His travels to countries as far a field as Japan, America, Africa and Europe has rendered his reputation as one of the most underrated DJs on the scene to date, and a constant name to watch.
Reds output on Trouble On Vinyl saw him producing anthem after anthem and in the latter years particularly, a harder edge and more diverse sound drove his tracks to a wider audience which took Red full circle, returning to his underground rap/house roots. This sound continues on the forthcoming material on Stealth. He has allowed himself a free reign to experiment in the studio and his latest dance floor killers point towards a shift in focus musically, a change that is earning Stealth’s current status as the label to watch in 2006 and beyond…
Reds debut release on DJ Hype’s prolific True Playaz imprint with the dirty funk of ‘Paradise’ & ‘Everything has Changed’ and his collaborations with D&B heavyweights Stakka & Skynet, Big Bud, Facs & Bad Company demonstrates the diversity of music flowing from Reds studio and it’s just one of the reasons why heads are turning in his direction.
The new material on Stealth Recordings showcases the militant, rolling funk where Red has carved his sound, but will also give the listener something that reaches out a bit, something that pulls away from the rest and pushes the envelope. The first release ‘Ride’ & ’Silo’ has smashed dance floors worldwide, it headed straight to No.1 in BBC Radio Ones Top 5 Drum & Bass Rollers and is a potent example of the labels intentions for the future. He followed that with ‘U Got Me’ and the successful ‘Edge Of Human Ep’ featuring Bad Company and Skynet. The latest Stealth release ‘The Fury’ and ‘Sonic Sunset’ continues the innovation and 2006 will bear witness to more Stealth Recordings pressure.
Currently working in other genres under various aliases, Red appears to have found his sound and the critical acclaim that has greeted every one of his releases for the last 11 years or more suggests that music, and an audience has found him too, proving himself as an innovator in his field, and now he finally looks ready to deliver what he has promised for so long…welcome to the 21stEALTH century…
