The Red Tree NATIONAL TOUR. In July 2008, The Australian Chamber Orchestra and Gondwana Voices Children's Choir presented an "extraordinary collaboration" - a new work by Michael Yezerski and Richard Tognetti inspired by Shaun Tan's award winning book. The piece was performed to sellout audiences in Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne and Brisbane.

The Black Balloon , written and directed by Elissa Down won the Crystal Bear at the Berlin Film Festival in February 2008. The film stars Toni Collette, Gemma Ward, Luke Ford, Rhys Wakefield and Erik Thomsen. The score features an elaborate lineup of instruments including Egyptian Oud, Harp, Dulcimer, Irish Whistles, Strings and Percussion. In addition, Michael composed four songs for the film including "When We Get There" (co-written by Josh Pyke) and "Even", featured in the cinematic trailer. The songs were performed by Josh Pyke, Simon Day (ex Ratcat), David Campbell, Bert LaBonte and Claire McCarthy. Michael devised and scored the musical production featured in the film which was recorded and mixed by Phil Punch. The original songs were produced by Wayne Connolly (Josh Pyke, The Vines, You Am I). The Black Balloon Soundtrack is available in stores through InSync and Inertia.
Michael Yezerski studied musical composition under Peter Sculthorpe and Ross Edwards at the University of Sydney graduating with first class honours. Michael then graduated with distinction in Audio technology from the Australian Institute of Music and completed film music studies at the prestigious Australian Film, Television and Radio School.
Michael is both a composer and a songwriter and has written for some of Australia's finest musicians including Josh Pyke, Richard Tognetti, Synergy Percussion, The Australian Chamber Orchestra, Michael Askill, Lyn Williams, Gondwana Voices, Veronique Serret, David Campbell, Simon Day, Joseph Tawadros and Afro Moses.
Michael's work has earned him significant accolades including APRA-AGSC Awards and Nominations, AFI, iF and FCCA nominations, Gold Medals at the 2004 and the 2006 Park City International Film Music Festivals (USA), the inaugural APRA Professional Development Award, Best Classical Artist at the 2004 MusicOz Awards (where he also received a nomination for Best World Music Artist), an attendance at the 2002 ASCAP International Film Scoring Workshop in Los Angeles and the AFTRS Critics Circle Music Prize. He was included in the Sydney Morning Herald's 2009 list of "People to Watch".
