In this universe of matter and energy (and matter is just condensed energy) that we relate to by naming the various forms (i.e. a tree, a rock, a bird, a house etc...) for a point of common reference in our communication with each other, like time which is a common reference point based on our plantary rotation, the seasons, night and day etc... but is really the constant action of cause and effect (the past is ash, the future wood, only in the now does the fire burn!). When conditions are right, life appears, when life appears, it is subject to the same laws of cause and efect that govern all physical reality. So therefore, at this moment you are the sum total effect of all your past causes; physically, mentally, materially and spiritually. What you will be in the future depends on what causes you make from this moment on, what determines what causes you will make from this moment on, is your fundamental life conditions state. (are you happy, sad, angry, depressed, hopeful, in a realization, etc...). So, you do not have to change who you are, you just need to raise or elevate your fundamental life conditions state and because we are a direct manifestation of the universe itself as an self aware organism, we can make the cause for change by moving in the direction we need to and the environment that we are a part of and connected to, will reflect that change in our lives.
