In Morpheus Arms is the name of the German progressive Metal band that has its influences in bands like Opeth, Tool, Dream Theater, The Gathering and Tiamat, but nevertheless practices a very personal and individual Songwriting whose texts deal with the psyche of human with its plenty of abysses and subconscious spheres. These topics are realised by vocalist Mira Kohli, guitarist Sascha Gutkowski, keyboardist Karsten Mroszczok, bass player Natalie Droege and drummer Peter Rosinski. But the Fun at making music is a not be misconceived factor that pushes the artists.
The laying of the foundations of "In Morpheus' Arms"
took place in early August 2002 in a music pub in Muelheim a.d.R.,
when Holger Kalff (Drums), Mira Kohli (Guitar & Vocals)
and Sascha Gutkowski (Guitar) decided to pool together as a band.
By fluke, Mira knew a bass player and Andreas Hain completed the first lineup.
Soon they rented a rehearsal room.
As it was the first band for all of them, they agreed to play cover songs for the time being.
As the first gigs came closer, they began the search for a suitable bandname
and after a long period of searching they chose "Culdesac".
After they were quite successful as coverband they decided to begin writing their own material,
that they played mixed with cover songs at some gigs.
Thanks to a good friend of them (regards to Stefan Richter...) who studied audio engineering,
"Culdesac" got the opportunity to record some songs at the end of 2003.
Unfortunately the date had to be deleted, because Holger moved to southern-Germany for job-related reasons.
More or less through a fortunate coincidence they became acquainted with Peter, so that they had a flying splice and didn't have to continue without a drummer.
Peter was familiarised with the songs pretty quick, and they were able to play a first gig in the new lineup.
The year 2004 was pretty changeable.
It began with a lineup-change on the bass, Natalie joined the band and made their music take a step forward.
Because of this rearrangement the bandname "Culdesac" was overtaken, because with all the lineup-changes the musical style changed seriously.
Mira decided to stop playing guitar in order to concentrate on her vocals, so they had to search for a new guitarist.
Due to the fact that they didn't want to wait with the recordings for such a long time, they decided to record at least Lethe.
In March 2004 Jack, a friend of them who played guitar and whose band had split up, recently joined "Culdesac".
However, the whole thing didn't last long, since in June 2004 Jack decided to leave the band and stop making music, so the recording sessions had to be rescheduled again.
That relapsed the development of the band quite a bit, but they refused to give up and started searching for a new guitarist once more and continued writing songs.
After searching in vain for some months they thought of limiting the lineup to one guitar,
what they would have done if Peter hadn't convinced them to search for a keyboard player.
They found one on the internet, phoned him and made an appointment to rehearse together.
Most of the band members had mixed feelings about Peter's Idea,
because a keyboard player would change the sound drastically.
But during the first few songs, played together, these feelings were blown away. Karsten got along with the band, musically and personally.
Now on it was certain that the bandname "Culdesac" wouldn't fit anymore because only two founding members were left, so they looked for a new name which was found with "In Morpheus' Arms".
