Ladi Oakason first started Respect Monday's in San Francisco, CA. The dance was held at a unique space in the heart of San Francisco's Chinatown called the LiPo Lounge. Located on famous Grant Ave. LiPo Lounge was one of the oldest buildings in Chinatown...over 100 years old. The tall ceilings were consumed with one of the largest and oldest paper latern that hung over the bar. As you enter, passing the bar, down the stairs, further and further down you finally reach the secret basement . Low ceilings, dim lit, nice soundsystem, and rotated selectas... Respect Mondays dun di place. After mashin up chinatown's underground, Respect Mondays moved to Los Angeles in 2001. From the heart of SF's Chinatown to the heart of Hollywood, RespectMondays new location is just as intimate and unique as the last. The weekly event, every Monday...of course, is now held @The Room. Another hidden venue, where the entrance is around the back and in the alleyway. It's dimmly lit, high grade being smoked , strong drinks, all-massive in di place, and reeeal reggae for a weekly crowd that is there strictly by word of mouth. Rarely had there been flyers or any promotion until now...four years later. Respect Mondays has had numerous guest selectas and appearences, not to mention the event brings many local sounds together...which is rare in Los Angeles.
