Growing up in a musical family of four, Phil began playing the drums at a young age. After playing percussion for four years, the Lord placed the desire to write music onto his heart. (He was in the seventh grade at the time.) Feeling like he couldn’t express this desire through the drums, Phil picked up an acoustic guitar and began to play it everyday.
As his knowledge of the guitar grew, opportunities to use his gained skill grew with it. He began to lead worship his first year of high school and started writing his own songs and sharing them with people around the same time. “It was a really cool experience,” says Phil, “I felt the Lord was calling me to do this with my life.”
While enjoying the summer between tenth and eleventh grade, Phil was asked to join a Christian rock band from San Diego called Farewell Down. “With Farewell Down I was able to experience what it was like to be busy playing music for the Lord. We were given the opportunity to play all over the world. I am looking forward to what the Lord is going to do in the lives of the other band members.” Phil is finishing up his previous commitments with Farewell Down as he transitions his focus onto his own project, his debut EP due out late January of next year, influenced by such artists as Copeland, Muse, Dashboard Confessional, Coldplay, U2, Eisley, Death Cab for Cutie, Imogen Heap, Rufus Wainwright, Bjork, Thom Yorke, and Jeff Buckley.
Phil is eager to continue working on his solo project and has since been blessed to lead worship and share his songs at churches and venues all across the United States including churches in California, Texas, Nebraska, Arizona and venues in San Diego, Nashville, and New York City.
The completion of his upcoming project is looked at with eager excitement. His daring and truthful lyrics combine with his poignant musical composition to make one moving and emotionally dynamic match for any listener. With each passing measure his melody cuts to the heart. Inspired by Phil’s life experiences and driven by his love and passion for Jesus Christ, he longs to impact the world for God. “My desire is to bless people with the songs the Lord has given me, as well as the meaning and lifestyle behind the music.
