Joselyn MartÃnez has a musical style as diverse as her native city of New York. Born in the Washington Heights section of the city to Dominican parents, Joselyn was surrounded by a variety of musical influences at an early age. While appreciating the Pop, R&B, Hip-Hop and Soul music of the times, Joselyn was also exposed to the contagious tropical rhythms of Salsa and Merengue. Growing up in a neighborhood where parties were a regular occurrence, it was there that Joselyn, then four years old, stood up on a table and gave her first solo vocal performance. At the age of 7, her parents placed her in piano lessons with a Dominican professor, so that he could teach her the classics along with music from her cultural background.During her teenage years, Joselyn started to participate in music videos and modeling jobs. It led her to attend a casting call where she was chosen to be one of the members in the international, all-girl Merengue Band “Las Chicas del Can." She recorded the album "Las Chican" which took her across Latin America and various cities in the U.S. Soon after Joselyn decides to finish her collegiate career in Political Science and Latin-American Studies at New York University. Knowing that her true passion was music, Joselyn enrolls in courses at Tisch School of Arts at NYU, taking singing and acting classes in order to continue fine tuning her craft. This leads to her participate in a variety of commercial campaigns such as Sprint and HBO.Joselyn later continues her studies at the Mannes School of Music, with voices lessons and music theory. She takes dance lessons at Broadway Dance Center in New York and continues pushing the limits of her creativity when she begins to write her own songs and melodies. Of those songs “Di Todo lo Que Quieras,†was chosen as "Best Song" in the songwriting contest sponsored by VH-1’s "Save the Music Foundation" in October of 2004. "I began to work on my songs in the subway because I wanted something to keep me busy during my long commute. I worked on the lyrics to melodies I had already started. After a while, I was looking forward to my daily trips because I realized the beauty that exists in an underground world and what can surface from it,†adds Joselyn. In this production Joselyn has had the opportunity to collaborate with Echo, Hex Hector, Viva Nativa and Alejandro Jaen. Movimiento Subterráneo, is sure to take the listeners on a ride of adventurous rhythms and melodic turns, with the arrival of a breakthrough new talent.
