The Rock’n’Roll Camp for Girls, a 501(c)3 non-profit, builds girls' self-esteem through music creation and performance.
Providing workshops and technical training, we create leadership opportunities, cultivate a supportive community of peers and mentors, and encourage social change and the development of life skills.
This is the official MySpace page of the original Rock'n'Roll Camp for Girls in Portland, OR. We have been dedicated to empowering girls through music since 2000. Girls learn to play instruments, form bands, and perform original songs at sold-out showcases*; they also make zines, learn self-defense, and develop skills in everything from media awareness to how to do sound to lyrics and songwriting to image and identity to the history of girls and women in music. Our programs change the lives of the girls --and the volunteers--who come here.
We're almost entirely volunteer-run, and are committed to helping girls of all backgrounds and abilities. See the official website for more information about the Rock'n'Roll Camp for Girls, application info, and how to attend, volunteer, or donate. Thanks! Rock on.
*You hear those songs on the player? Those bands formed on the first day of camp, wrote these original songs, and performed them a mere five days later! And many of the girls had picked up these instruments for the first time.

DEAR WOULD-BE NEW FRIENDS! PLEEEEASE READ THIS!
This MySpace is a place for girl rockers, camp volunteers, and their friends, families, and benefactors to connect. We get a ton of friend requests every day and while we're flattered by the attention, we don't really care about having a million friends so much as we want to have friends who are genuinely interested in the camp and our causes. So please, dear reader, READ THE BLOG ENTRY ABOVE and then take one second of your internet time to INTRODUCE YOURSELF accordingly when you request to be friends. IF YOU DO NOT INTRODUCE YOURSELF, WE WILL PROBABLY NOT ADD YOU! Even if we do know you, we might not recognize you from your photoshopped MySpace picture, or maybe you have grown a foot since we last saw you, or something, so just write us a quick note already and let's be friends.
