Eleanor Roosevelt Does the Ultraviolent Fandango

About Me

I am from Grand Forks, North Dakota. Well, I graduated from Thompson, North Dakota. But I always considered myself from Grand Forks, because I lived there for the first eight years of my life and then moved to thompson and lived the next ten years there. And then I moved back to Grand Forks for college, so I've now officially lived more in Grand Forks than Thompson. So Grand Forks is more my home. I do enjoy writing. And acting. and directing. Heck, I even enjoy modern dance. I'm engaged. To Kristen Bohlman, whom I love dearly. I think we should all love somebody dearly. Even if it's just our mom or dad. Or both. I have a sister, too. Her name is Sarah. She's married to a pilot. And she worked herself up the Barnes and Noble Food chain. If I were to summarize my life in one word, I guess it would be . . . Hmm. That's tough. I want to say something like artistic, or integrity or . . . splendifurous. Yes. That's the word. Splendifurous. I probably butchered the spelling. I don't care. as long as you get the idea. Maybe someday someone will correct me.

My Interests

I write play. I write music on my computer as well. I perform. Theatre amuses me and challenges me. Someday I want to create my own theatre. both as a company and as a basic idea of how theatre should be performed. I am definitely interested in challenging the norm. But I also don't want to scuttle off into such obscure forms of expression as to alienate my audience from any understanding of the topics which I attempt to tackle.

I'd like to meet:

Al Pacino, Gary Oldman, Harold Pinter, Michael Keaton, Peter O'Toole, Robert Duvall... I dunno. On some sort of deeper, metaphysical, philosophical level, I wouldn't mind meeting myself... as others see me. That'd be interesting.

Music:

man I love beethoven. For classical composers, he had more passion in his writing than most any artist. Most times when I hear a really really good symphonic piece, or a concerto, or sonata, or anything, often it ends up being a beethoven piece. I'm so drawn to his work. But in more recent times, I love the Beatles, Radiohead, Pink Floyd, and any song that creates an atmosphere and rips apart my insides. Staind is pretty good, especially the song Epiphany. any song like Epiphany in atmospheric terms will usually get my appreciation.

Movies:

I tend to always like al pacino movies. I can understand when people criticize his work, especially in recent years... but you have to watch all of his early stuff to really really appreciate him as an actor. and I'm talking about more than just The Godfather.. watch Scarecrow, and Dog Day Afternoon, or Serpico. .. and justice for all... even bobby deerfield, if you're up to it. Anything but the movie "cruising" .... but i'm only judging that based on the trailer I've seen for it.

Books:

I've read a plethora of plays and acting books recently.. I highly recommend How to Stop Acting by Harold Guskin. I love Mario Puzo books... and Orson Scott card usually floats my boat. Chuck Palahniuk is the smartest contemporary writer I've yet to read . . . Fight Club is so much better as a book, and I know even Chuck Palahniuk disagrees with me... but read the final chapter of Fight Club aloud with a group of friends.. and I mean REALLY get into the reading.. and I think you'll find the book better.

Heroes:

My peers. More and more I respect them, and wish them all the luck in the world. and this not only includes my peers in college, in theatre... but my peers from high school. The more I think about them, the more I only wish them all the best in the world, even if I never talk to any of them, or If I never see them again in my life... I still wish them all the luck in the world. And whoever reads this. I wish you luck. I hope you do what you want to do in life.
