Hi everyone, welcome to my page! My name is Matteo Ringressi, I'm a traditional hard-driving straight-ahead bluegrass fan and banjo picker from Italy.
I've been around music since I was born. I fell in love with the banjo by watching the Muppet Show, and my grandpa built me a banjo made out of a biscuit box when I was about 4. I started listening to Bill Monroe and the Stanleys when I was 7, and to Flatt & Scruggs shortly thereafter, and never stopped. At about 10, I bought my first guitar and took lessons. I switched to banjo several years later, but started studying it seriously in 2002. Since then I have also taught myself mandolin, bass and dobro.
Traditional bluegrass is my love and passion. Bill Monroe, Flatt & Scruggs, Stanley Brothers, Earl Taylor, Red Allen, Jimmy Martin, Lilly Brothers, Lonesome Pine Fiddlers, Buzz Busby, and all the others, are the real deal for me. Heartfelt and passionate!
I enjoy listening to contemporary bluegrass aswell, JD Crowe & The New South, Del McCoury Band, Dan Paisley, David Davis, Seldom Scene, Third Tyme Out, Ricky Skaggs, Rhonda Vincent, Doyle Lawson...
I currenly play in "Lambergrass", a bluegrass band from Milano, Italy. Our band was born in 2006. There are not many bluegrass bands in our country. We try to come up with our own style, deeply rooted in the tradition, and our repertoire ranges from the great traditional classics from the pioneers to more contemporary-flavored songs, but always with close harmonies and driving instrumentation.
