About Me
Son of Man was born on April 1st 2003 in Pueblo, Colorado. The project was a result of four existing musical projects that were going nowhere. From those placid efforts, these dreamers took on the task of forming a new, more vivid and exciting venture they called Son of Man.
Without a front man at that time, Matt Herrera (guitar), Mo Valdez (guitar), Brandon "Torch" Gonzales (drums), and Josh Ewing (bass), first started as an instrumental metal band, writing their first six songs within the first week of playing together. Needless to say, everything clicked. They began to play at small venues and quickly built a fan base in their hometown in Colorado. The newly formed band understood they needed a front man to take Son of Man to the next level in its existence. Reluctant to search for a lead singer, they made a unanimous decision to not settle for just anyone. As a result, they spent the next three and a half months interviewing and auditioning candidates. During that time, a friend of theirs, Brandon Bustamante, ended up auditioning for the band.
In spring of 2004, Son of Man completed a short five song self-titled EP, and has since sold over 1,000 copies. Son of Man has also released their second four-song EP in June 2005 entitled "This is my rose, from me to you…" and has sold nearly 1,200 copies. After completing their second short record, they set off on their first tour in the summer of 2005. Upon returning from the two month, "Vocal Assault Tour," they continued to book shows locally in Colorado and in nearby states. Son of Man has since played several large ticketed shows with bands such as Thousand Foot Crutch, Apiary, Gaza, Himsa, Lex Dizik, Ion, Aggressive Persuasion, and Hemlock. Son of Man has played in venues such as the Gothic, the Ogden, the Bluebird Theatre and the Coors Stage at the Colorado State Fair Grounds. In February of 2006, they released their first DVD and had their first single, "Playground Revenge," put on a compilation record endorsed by Tower Records.
In early 2008, Brandon was let go from the band so he could pursue other avenues of life. On the search for a new vocalist again, they received an overwhelming response from the public, and after trying out multiple different people, they decided on Roger Foster in May of 08'. It was a natural fit from the begining, and the fans have repeatedly told the band that Roger feels like what Son Of Man has been missing all along, and that the band is more impresive than ever.
The original ideas they held about their existence have not changed. They still exist to show the demons they once held so close and they are no longer an entity that cowers at the thought of loss, but one that will embrace it to achieve more. They are as soft as rose petals and as hard as bullets. They do not like to change minds or influence dreams, they simply make music you can dance, cry, punch or die to. They are five brother's in a very tightly knit family. They are three Mexicans and two white boy's who love what they do…they are Son of Man.
