BOONDOX-the album TRIPPLE LACED out now!

About Me

Some words from Boon: "Boondox is me, a young black business man from Oakland California who hustled my whole life for everything I have. I was raised in the streets but also have some education. I'm not bad with ladies (I don't need no help ha ha) , I'm young, fly and soon to be rich. I won't stop till I'm on the front page of the FORTUNE MAG!!! Fa sheesho! In a minute!"
Boondox's home town is Oakland California where he mostly grew up in the west Oakland streets. He was born in Los Angeles, then moved to Oakland as a baby to be raised mostly by his grandmother after his parents separated. Coming up in the family church he learned about a higher power and being part of the choir he learned the make up of music. Boondox was raised on the Isley brothers, Marvin Gay, Parlament, & Sugar Hill Gang, to name a few. So you can see he's been into music his whole life.
One day Boondox discovered the radio station 89.5 KPOO. From then on he was listening and being influenced by artist like Run D.M.C, N.W.A, Sir-mix-a-lot, SpaceCowboys, Too Short, Ice-T, Steady-B, and a lot of others records spinnin at that time. He used to record off that radio station and sell and trade those mixtapes with folks in his hood.
Boondox started writing raps when he was 13 and was taken under the wing by a neighborhood rapper, Brian-B of the Black Power Posse (B.P.P), at a freestyle battle. After Brian-B heard one of his verses he took Boondox to the studio. Brian-B, Boondox and others then formed a group called Spooktown. The orgin of his name came from Boonie, a childhood name given to him by his uncle Charlie, and soon became Young Boon as he was he youngest rapper in the group. Songs like Crazy Mutha Fuckas, Tell Me When, and Spooktowns in Limbo got Young Boon noticed on the underground rap scene.
A few years later the group broke up. Without a producer Boondox picked up a thing for making tracks. He started with a hand me down Kawia drum machine, a Gemini 8 sec. sampler, and a broke Tascam 4 track recorder that he learned himself how to sync and make his own tracks. Making songs like A Dam Fool and Tare Mine Off both produced and written by him earned him respect as a producer as well as a rapper.
Boondox then began performing at parks, hole in the wall clubs, and talent shows to get experience & build his fan base. At one of these events he ran into a family friend, Mac Reem. They started recording together and formed a group named Cousin Kin Folks (C.K.F). They then recorded a album together intitled Just Ridas, but it was never released do to lack of funds and resources.
Later Mac Reem and Boondox agreed to hook up with a mutual friend Buda at Mynage Management where they recorded songs like Eyes of a Killa, Westside to da Casket Drop, and Just Another Lick (which was created for the sound track of that Eddie Murphy movie Metro).Later, after terminating thier agreement with Mynage Management, Buda's business partner Jerome mentored him & gave Boondox a vision to start his own label: Blackman Entertainment.
From producing and working with other artists of the Bay, and performing for free at Bay Area clubs like Blakes, Mingles, Club131, & 444 Daharo, people started really knowing and respecting BOONDOX as a rapper that also does beats. He then got a lot of production & collaboration offers. He helped produce and arrange a few artists like Imfamouss EP "Ain't Nothing to it", and Louisville Sluggas album entitled "All Work No Play" that landed his name in the December 2000 issue of the Showcase Magazine for production.
He was also mentored by a man named Marcel Cotton a.k.a Krushadelic who gave him business, personal, and industry insight and pointers on the music and clothing game. Boondox then enrolled in school at Contra Costa College for music. After completing a few courses in audio recording, instructed by professor Wayne Organ who also had 2pac as a student, he learned what he thought he needed to know to take his sound to another level.
There he learned Protools, Logic, Cakewalk, DP, Reasons, Sony Vegas, and other computer programs, plus all kinds of bandwidth, effects, soundboard inputs, outputs ect. and the proper way to connect it all. There later he took desktop video editing to learn Final Cut Pro, imovie, Pinnacle Systems Studio 9 &10, and other top video editing programs. He also took courses in broadcasting where he wrote, created, and ran his own TV show entitled My Contribution to Hip Hop (M.C.T.H.H) shot live in a professional studio on campus. Boondox had guests like Malika (from MTVs making the band), Grand (a recording artist from Fat Sak Records), Zakiya (a known Bay Area artist), Craving Change (an indie rock band from the Bay), and others (including himself of course).
Using his gift of art and good taste in fashion in 2000 he started his own clothing line named BLACKMAC Clothing . He produced t-shirts, headbands, pullovers, hats, visers, and jerseys all with his original designs. So now its 2006 and hes working to release his album entitled Tripple Laced on his independent record label Blackman Entertainment. The album is a collection of songs from his earlier youth up to now. It chronicles the trials and era of what life taught him, mixed with slappin beats, baselines and party music. With Boondox writing, arranging, and producing the whole album it has given him a new perspective on hard work & the fruits that come with it.
