About Me

I am opening Uncle Phil's Sports Bar someday, but the shirts and hoodies are for sale now.
follow philbennett at http://twitter.comHere's a few things I love: Missouri born and raised. Moved to Nashville in 2002 to write a number 1 hit.
I have two amazing kids/adults that are very talented musically. My daughter Cagney is a wonderful songwriter/writer/pianist/guitarist. She has so much talent and I hope I am lucky enough to cowrite a song with her someday. There aren't words to describe how amazing she is.
My son Mitch has more raw talent than anyone I know. He is in the process of mastering the piano and teaching himself to play the guitar and also plays drums. I have no clue what he is going to wind up doing with his life, but it is going to be so much fun watching him develop. I hope that somehow my following my dreams has inspired them to do the same. My biggest thrill so far is watching their talent develop. Now I know how my Dad felt.
I am currently in the studio working on song demos and hope to have some new tunes uploaded soon. I am also shopping for a serious publisher that will help me get my songs into the right hands. So, if you like what you hear, drop me a line or come see me at one of my songwriter nights.
Keep the faith

Band Members: The Preacher's Kid
By Phil Bennett
The preacher's kid sat in the second row and sang "Amazing Grace"
He listened to the words his Daddy spoke...still in his place.
He wondered if they listened to him speak
Why they only lived it one day a week.
Never knew how he couldn't see
That I needed him more than the sinners on Sunday.
But I was not a sinner yet, maybe I needed to be
to get what I needed from him.
In many ways, he was a hero to me
And I wanted to be like him and not them.
I always knew he was doing the best he could
He didn't know any other way.
I still remember the sermons he preached
He felt it and tried to live it,
but he couldn't get them to see.
"Don't you ever give up on God," he would say.
But they never listened, but I did.
And in a thousand ways, because of him
the preacher's kid is a better man today.

Influences: I grew up in Missouri singing gospel music with The Bennett Family, so some of those old songs and chord progressions creep into my music every now and then. I remember watching my Uncle play all the Chet Atkins he could learn. I also listened to James Taylor, John Denver and Jim Croce. I wanted so much to play guitar like that. So I borrowed my brother's old classical guitar and figured out how to make those chords.
During the late 80's and 90's, I discovered Vince Gill, George Strait, Skip Ewing and Gretchen Peters. I am still huge fans.
I just love all types of music and try and learn something from each track that crosses my path.
