About Me
June is Jazz Month in Jamaica – F.O.J. 2009 16th February 2009THIS YEAR IS another ‘June Is Jazz Month’ of the 19th Annual International JAMAICA OchoRios Jazz festival June 7-22, with over thirty (30) Musical Events throughout the island from Negril, Montego Bay, Runaway Bay, OchoRios (The hub) to Port Antonio and capital Kingston and Port Royal, the historic ‘Wickedest & Richest City in the World’ in those times. Our Jazz Festival (as the title implies) is seen and attended by over 5,000 jazz fans throughout Jazz Week each year, ending on Father’s Day, in appreciation and respect of those fathers who symbolizes respect, leadership and good home life.Main events on Opening Jazz Day and Closing Jazz Day is headlined by a major International Jazz Star, Instrumentalist or Vocalist or Group, supported by all the major Jamaican Musical Jazz performers , musicians and groups . We have also invited participants from countries with professional and budding jazz performers, trying for a breakthrough into the big time of jazz, with the support of their Country’s Art & Cultural Organisations. The list is long and never ending, include England / Great Britain, The Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland, Australia, France, the Caribbean, and of course the United States and Canada among others. Our Jazz Week events are held in small intimate locations, from Night Clubs, Hotel Entertainment Rooms, Home Lawns, in-door and out-door locations and any requested location, conducive to the spreading and preservation of Classical Black Music-Jazz.A very important part of our music education activity and feature is, the Sonny Bradshaw School Band and Instrumental competition. We have distributed over 600 beginners recorders to over forty schools throughout the island, and many cash and kind prizes donated by the bandleaders of current groups and music individuals, at home and abroad without the support of corporate entities. One of the most popular and musically entertaining features of this Jazz festival is the Daily Public Afternoon Free Concert Series, in the center of OchoRios daily, attracting both visitors (tourists), school children and the local community, with guest appearances by artistes and musicians attending the Festival, also a special performance at the Food Stop in Ewarton, all without corporate support. It is sincerely hoped that this Summer’s 18th renewal of the JAMAICA OchoRios JAZZ Festival will attract your interest with a view of financial and other support, so that this work may be continued for the benefit of Jamaica...Please reply to the sender of this email as our local representative for instructions on making your most needed contribution.
