So here's a bit about me. Born in Holland but moved to England in 1978 Miss England when in Holland and miss Holland when in England but such is life, but then it's not really that far to travel so that’s not a problem really.... Well I've always had a link with music as my dad was a classical musician who played all over the world for various Philharmonic orchestras. Even about as young as 10 I can remember that even when I went to bed I had to have music on and as soon as I awoke the play button on the tape player had to be hit. Through the 70's I played most styles as a D.J. but very soon had a preference for Reggae specially Dub and Disco and Soul. When I moved to England in 1978 I got to know Steve who had the biggest mobile road show in the south west of England and ended up working with him. By early 1979 I had bought it from Steve and carried on hiring halls and putting on shows, it was from then it was my fulltime job and only means of income and had to be taken seriously from then on. I was very lucky at that time to a mother that supported me in what I wanted to do and she would give me a kick up the backside if I needed it. She also was the only person I would trust to take the money on the door of the events I put on, so she was very important to me and very patient hahaha... ( thanks mum ) We also put on bands with the roadshow the largest being Steel Pulse. By 1980 Punk had really got popular in the south west. I never really got into the punk thing so I did go back to Holland for a while and there I was playing more Jazzfunk etc. got some good memories from around that time. When I came back to England in '83 life carried on with the roadshow till '86 that's when I sold the roadshow and just did clubs and events. I was also involved with a night club at that time but left there in '88 as my choice in music was no longer the same as the clubs as they where just getting so commercial, I just couldn't deal with that anymore as there was so much good music out there that I found exciting ie: Hip hop - Hip house - Acid - and house. I got asked to be the resident d.j. at this club called Oscar's In Exmouth in '88 and that was an amazing place really proper spit and sawdust but with a nice sound system and a very friendly and up for it crowd. Still brings a smile to my face thinking about that place with its low ceilings so incredibly hot in there, like to step into a time machine and give it another week :). It was the first underground club in the area and by 10 it was full and it was 1 out 1 in. Sadly the owners sold it in 1990 and the new ones didn't like the music I played or the people that came there. But I had already organized a couple of events next to the club at the Exmouth Pavilion so I had linked with a few other people who did the same, and ended up playing other events such as Positivity and Well helmet etc. I ended with several residencies playing house as well as hardcore etc. I also played outside of the U.K. in countries like Holland, Germany, Spain and Belgium. Due to family life I stopped for a few years from 1998 but missed that turntable experience and the feeling of mixing so much that I started playing again (thank god)
But now it's no longer my fulltime job as I am a tattooist by day.
