The height of stardom doesnt seem that it will be much of a struggle for 22 year old artist Blak Genius who calls Sydney Home but has his eyes set on presenting Australian Hip Hop Music to the world by offering a whole dimension to the genre. Born in Ghana, he came to Sydney when he was 7 and began writing at the age of 16, and now Blak Genius is trying to close the gap between Australia and the rest of the world with his music being more accessible and able to compete on an international scale.
With influences including Nas, Tupac and Rakim to hybrid groups such as Rage Against The Machine, Genius has absorbed these elements with his unique style to create a whole new sound. His music takes the genre to a whole other level.
Blak Genius recently completed his debut album The Prophecy which is the product of three years work with producer Howard Latoure AKA How-it-iz. The two first met some years ago as opponents in freestyle battle in Sydney (the victor was Blak Genius). They met up again in 2002 after Latoure launched his studio and label, Unique Entertainment Records and the combination was perfect. The production was approached in a way unrestricted by issues placed on other artists regarding their accent, style or beats which so far hasnt allowed Australian hip hop music to be able to be taken further into the international arena.
Aside from the music, Blak Genius made his debut performance on Australia Day Eve, where he was recently handpicked to support Scratch from the US group The Roots and his stage presence can only be described as EXPLOSIVE and UNPREDICTABLE!
