About Me

"When doing reasearch for my first music article one lonely day doing what one slowly does when recovering from what was likely pneaumonia, the combination of Myspace and Santa Fe seemed fertile ground to find New artists that aren't terribly interesting, so the author could say things about them that aren't terribly interesting, and everyone goes home happy with all their fingers and toes feeling somewhat enlightened and perhaps turned on to a new not-terribly-interesting-band.While initially planning out a feature on Babelshack (coming soon) and looking for another few interesting artists; the author noticed some comments on their page from a new band that he has never heard of called Emergency Room. This is where the I begin to fail miserably at living up to my own goals I set out in the introduction of this article. The Author gets their page loading while he goes off to get some orange juice and do a few other things equally as boring while their page loads. Music begins to crash around inside the author's cabin that he could never have been prepared for in the least. He has heard this before, and now he has lots to say. -So much for a cheap harmless writeup of just another new band.I said to myself "This is Mike Music" Due to the fact that The Author once had a roomate that -lived for exactly this kind of music- back in the old days when he lived in Santa Fe. Here, kids is where we begin to enter the twilight zone, because a quick glance at the band member list actually had a "Mike" listed. A quick glance at the Band's pictures confirms that "Mike" and "Mike" are somehow, actually the very same person.Ladies and Gentleman, this is not, your genaric ho-hum rock band that sounds like all the other genaric ho-hum rock bands that open for other genaric so-so rock bands in clubs. Simply put, there is far more talent in this band than J. Random Club band. They are an assembly of some of the better musicians that can be found out in Santa Fe, and the combination is stellar. But, how about the music? It is intense and complicated and fast. It is an overwhelming assult for the unprepared. It is a good case of sensory overload, and a fist-shaking challenge to the listener. It is a bit high-brow. It is almost over the heads of the metal kids who might try to mosh to it. It is not music for soothing granny's nausea. It is not pop music fit for a ringtone. It is not the kind of music you'll ever hear while on hold with the gas company. It is not in the least- harmless music. It has something of a selective pretense that while is present, dosn't outright exclude our moshing metal kids, or anyone else for that matter. This is music, likely, very carefully crafted to be exactly this way. Make no mistake - this music is supposed to challenge the listener. It gives nothing away for free, but after a few minuets, nobody could leave empty-handed. Emergency Room accomplishes what it likely set off to do -very, very well."
