Liz Phair, Tanya Donelly (in all her bands or solo), Sheryl Crow, and Tori Amos are my very favorites... I also like Keane, Alanis Morissette, The Killers, Madonna, No Doubt and Gwen Stefani, Goldfrapp, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nina Gordon, Moby, Dido, Coldplay... that's what I've been listening to for the past few years at least...I'm not the "music snob" I used to be -- if I like a song, I like it, and I don't really care if it's "underground" or "alternative" or whatever. It makes no difference to me if the song has sold one copy or 10 million. If I like it, I like it. Deal.
Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead; The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou; Mulholland Drive; Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion; Pi; Coffee and Cigarrettes; Buffalo '66; The Royal Tenenbaums; Lost in Translation; Zuckerbaby; Office Space; anything with Bill Murray...I used to be a huge David Lynch fan for many years, but I think I'm over it now...oh yeah, and how could I forget: Back to the Future!
Six Feet Under, Queer as Folk (U.S. version - I haven't seen the U.K.'s version), My So-Called Life, Buffy the Vampire Slayer (hey, I can't help it!), The Facts of Life (my favorite show during my elementary school days).
I usually like memoirs the best. My very favorites: Augusten Burroughs Running With Scissors, and Elizabeth Wurtzel's Prozac Nation
Anyone who gives a damn about the environment, about social justice issues, about making this world a kinder, gentler place... anyone who not only has great values like these but who actually puts them into action every day.
