Humble Beginnings to Record-Setting Success
ACN began as the vision of five entrepreneurs who had a dream of building a service company built on integrity and the importance of personal relationships with its customers.
From that vision, ACN launched operations January 1993 in Southfield, Michigan, as a long distance agent for a company by the name of LCI International. LCI had very little market share in the residential community, which positioned ACN to take the lead as their consumer sales and marketing arm. LCI was later purchased by Qwest Communications for $4.4 billion, and ACN represented an astonishing one-third of LCIs business.

In 1998 ACN began providing natural gas and electricity services in select areas through its wholly owned subsidiary ACN Energy, headquartered in McLean, Virginia. By turning power into customer empowerment, ACN Energy committed itself to providing its subscribers long-term value and competitive rates. Hundreds of thousands of people have made ACN Energy their choice for utility services and that number continues to grow.
Along the way, ACN realized the only way to provide truly personalized service was to become a telephone company.
