The son of 2 educators, I was born and raised in northern California (born in San José, raised in Watsonville, finished high school in Merced). I started college at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo as a graphic design major & later graduated from San José State University with a B.A. in Creative Arts... then I moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career as an actor. I have been fortunate enough to stay busy doing plays, primarily for children, as well as some film and television. I also work as a theatre teacher, giving workshops to public school students of all ages on acting, play writing, story telling, improvisation, ensemble work & classic theatre. I'm currently working on an M.A. in Theatre Arts at Cal State L.A. On my free time, I enjoy spending time with my girlfriend, hiking, riding my bike, going to the beach, sports, drawing, photography & traveling, especially to Costa Rica, where I have many relatives.
Collecting & listening to música has always been one of my favorite hobbies; from my (& my parents’) old records and cassettes, to CD’s & mp3’s of today. I have also been writing poetry since I was 6 years old. Hip-hop culture has always had a huge influence on me since I was breakdancing & illustrating 3-D letters at my elementary school in Watsón, Califas. I have always had an aspiration to be an MC & a producer, but I could never afford the good quality tools. Besides freestyling with my friends, I would record mixtapes & DJ house parties with old component stereo equipment & I would record vocals, once in a while, with a little keyboard microphone.
In the fall of 2005, an amazing opportunity presented itself to me. A very talented musician friend of mine, Andrew Jaimez, approached me with an instrumental track that he had composed & produced, as well as a chorus that he had written. He asked me if I would be interested in dropping some rap vocals on it. We discussed his concept of the song & I went home & wrote some lyrics to coincide with it. After a few trips to his studio in East L.A. & some additional vocals by Angelica Cardona, “The World Around Me†was born.
I did not choose the name Chacón, it chose me. Although many Hollywood industry professionals have told me to consider changing my name for “business†purposes, I have proudly elected to keep it… & use it to identify myself as a hip-hop artist. It is a homage to mi papá, who after moving to San José, California from San José, Costa Rica when he was a teenager, not only graduated from high school, but put himself through college after his family moved back to Central America when he was 18. He was an extremely hard working, self-made man who as a teacher & administrator dedicated his life to improving the quality of public education in the state of California. Through my art, his legacy will live on. Thanks to him and my magnificent mother, the immeasurable value of education has always been instilled in me & I hope to pass that on to future generations.
Material things such as money, cars, clothes & jewelry come and go, but no one can ever take away the knowledge & wisdom you possess in your mind. I have a lot of fun making music & sharing positive energy with other human beings. I will continue to spark the flames of creativity and consciousness by bringing you some more tracks in the near future.
