Amira Hamzar (Merrie), winner of the 2007 Michigan Renaissance Festival’s Middle Eastern Dance Competition, is a dance Performer and Instructor whose home-base is Beledi Global Dance & Boutique (www.BelediGlobalDanceCenter.com)in Traverse City Michigan. She teaches Cabaret and Tribal Bellydance as well as African, Polynesian (Hula and Tahitian) and Indian (Masala Bhangra and Bollywood).
Amira is the Artistic Director of the Dancers of the Rising Phoenix (www.Dancers-of-the-Rising-Phoenix.tripod.com)as well as the Main Facilitator of the Traverse City Chapter of PURE (www.PURE-TC.tripod.com), the Public Urban Ritual Experiment which was co-founded in New York City by Darshan (www.DarshanDances.com)and Kaeshi Chai of Bellyqueen (www.Bellyqueen.com)and the Bellydance Superstars (www.BellydanceSuperstars.com).
Amira has been fortunate to have learned from many of the Bellydance Superstars as well as local and international instructors. Her goal is to learn as much as she possibly can and to pass along this information to others.
To better accomplish this, she and the Dancers of the Rising Phoenix launched in the spring of 2008 the World Dance Apprenticeship Program. Currently, this includes Bennurshina Cabaret and Shemanunaki Tribal Bellydance. Plans are underway to launch the second-half of the program in the fall which will include Garuda Indian Dance and Ka-alae-nui-a-hina Polynesian. She and the troupe members take students “under their wing†top help them on their world-dance journey, teaching and training them so that they too may be members of the Dancers of the Rising Phoenix.
As all teachers are students, Amira is expanding her dance and music repertoire by learning Clogging and how to play the Riq (Arabic Tambourine).
In her “spare†time, Amira practices meditation, Yoga, Pilates and Tai Chi. You can contact her at mailto:
