Influences: Coming from a family of jazz musicians, RayRay's earliest influences were strangely mostly horn players. Jazz greats such as Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Dizzy Gillespie, etc. Guitar players include Joe Pass, Kenny Burrell, Barney Kessel, Howard Roberts and Herb Ellis. Early bass influences include such greats as Paul Chambers, Jimmy Garrison, Ron Carter, Neils Orsted Pederson and Ray Brown. As for bass guitar, he was especially impressed by Jaco Pastorious, Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller, Wayman Tisdale and Nathan East. RayRay's family were jazz purists and he never took popular music seriously until his late teens and early twenties. Inspired by such great blues based bands as The Yard Birds, Cream, ZZ Top, The Allman Brothers, Led Zepplin and The Rolling Stones, he started listening to the classic blues artists of the past including Muddy Waters, T-Bone Walker, Albert Collins, Albert King, Paul Butterfield, BB King, Robert Johnson, Big Bill Broonzy, and especially Lightnin' Hopkins. Others including, Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughn caught his attention and opened up whole new horizons for him. Realizing that blues is the root of nearly every type of popular music including jazz, he dicovered that blues is what was really in his heart and soul all the time and continues to keep learning as much as he can, never forgetting where it all came from.
