Two reviews of the single:
“ ‘Alias’ is another scintillating slab of preppy art-school pop/rock from
everyone’s favourite tunesmiths The Madeleines. With a knack for stapling
the melodic, regal songwriting of Stellastarr* to some vicious North London tongues,
this quartet are slowly establishing themselves as one of the most
impressive new bands on the UK circuit. And you can understand why. Just
listen to the swirling guitars that punctuate AA side ‘Pilot Light’ and let those
dry, staccato vocals relentless pound their way into your subconscious
like some kind of throbbing great traction engine. It’ll leave you shaken,
stirred but begging for more and more.”

“I endured the stormy rain at Truck on Saturday to see The Madeleines. I'd
never encountered them before, but somehow they warmed the harsh rain
and, on a personal level, sparked off the festival. Their brand of
difficult yet friendly swivelling indie, complimented by ace beats and fleshy
melody would seduce any being. “Alias”, their new single, will have
many a teenager bebopping, and many a dude dancing. The shivers of
Editors are nearly silenced by echoes of Bloc Party, yet this is not just
another sceney copy; it's comething unique, and something to enjoy. Both
songs on show here are worthy of your ears, and may just plop
themselves permanantly into your churning heart. Give this band your
time, the hype starts here.”

The Madeleines were on the front page of myspace for 2 weeks in 2006
(thanks myspace!) and released their debut single "Trouble/Safety Net" which you may have
heard on Radio One, XFM and BBC6. They were on the NME stereo:
'Frantic debut seven-inch finds them sounding like Editors quaffing back
caffeine bombs after an endless night putting the world to rights'
NME, On The NME Stereo, April 1st issue
and Music Week said:
'Trouble is the third release from promising young indie label Destructible and
the first from London guitar popsters The Madeleines, who have been causing a
fuss on MySpace of late. Their sensitive, riff-driven indie pop is reminiscent of
an English Clap Your hands Say Yeah and should help them to sustain the
internet buzz.' Music Week, week of April 1st
and looserecord.com very nicely said:
'If there is any sort of justice in life, the Madeleines will be big, very big indeed.
It was love at first listen for me. It is impossible to resist the catchy, sweetly
polished charm of these North Londoners. They sound like a little of lots of
bands we all know and love, but with a spark that sets them apart.
To hear the Madeleines is to know what bliss sounds like.'
