About Me

Stay Gold Gallery WAS an alternative exhibition space located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Since its inception in 2003, Stay Gold's aim has been to foster creative collaboration by bringing together artists and audiences from around the world. Our environment encourages exploration of both new and traditional media through our exhibition program and a schedule of monthly events in the f orms of art, music, performance and multimedia.
We lost our lease in 2007 and have created TROPHY . We will continue to promote art but only in the form of sculpture, until we find a new home.
While transitioning into the next phase of our existence, we continue to explore, introduce, create, promote and challenge. Stay Gold will always continue to STAY TRUE.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
TROPHY (aka Stay Gold Gallery) Presents:
“Jacksidents Might Get You Fruined”
April 25th – July 2009
OPENING RECEPTION SATURDAY, April 25th, 2009, 7-10PM

TROPHY (aka Stay Gold Gallery) is pleased to present the Spring 2009 installment series of exhibitions in our outdoor sculpture garden. This show will feature works by Jack Warren & Tom Fruin, both long time friends and collaborators. The opening reception will be held on Saturday, April 25th and the exhibition will continue through July 2009.
A collector of things, Warren sees the world most clearly in its abandoned objects. Using “found” language culled from pages of abandned books, journals, magazines, historical files and movies. Warren translates the broken-down content into a visual languange of his own. His viewpoint is also evident in the individual collages that are nothing short of reconstructions-perhaps imagined reanimations- of fragments left behind, stacks of magazines, piles of printed words, broken totems of our commerce and our religion, images stripped of their context, scraps from the table of a great and troubled feast. What comes through in this work is something both spiritual and tactile, a translation of our most common expressions into a language made up of symbolic glyphs and mathematical formations.
Fruin, too, works primarily with found detritus. He searches for items that have been imbued with history and use, making small alterations to bend the material for his own use. Known primarily for his quilts and flags made from found drug bags, these two works are from an expanding series exploring additictions and vices, focusing on repitition and ritual. Both works here are comprised of actual used bottles collected and saved for the artist by Superfine.
The accumulation evidenced by both Fruin and Warrens works suggest a psycological understanding of the world, and through the resulting pieces both artists attempt to sort out what was left behind and reinvent it, giving it new meaning and new life.
