Fetish Drums - Voodoo Rock on Psychedelic Pop
Die Performance von Fetish Drums resultiert musikalich als auch textlich, aus einer außergewöhnlichen Lebenserfahrung mit real gelebten Abenteuern. Spirituelle Aufträge von Naturgeistern aus allen Kulturen der Welt spielen dabei eine große Rolle.
Fetish Drums ist kein Fantasieprodukt und auch nicht esoterisch sondern Rock pur.
Die Band sorgt mit dem richtigen Drive und immer tanzbarer Musik für eine euphorische Stimmung, angeheizt durch die Voodoo Show von Fetish Priest Xtian Shank und seiner Partnerin
El Donna Anke. Die teilweise improvisierte Musik schafft bei den Liveshows mit echten Ritualen eine neue positive Realität.
Die musikalische Laufbahn des Bandgründers beginnt bereits in den achtziger Jahren
mit der Gruppe "Schön", entdeckt vom NDW Papst Alfred Hilsberg, der die Single
"Tanz Doch" auf seinem Zick Zack Label veröffentlicht.
Der erste Longplayer erscheint 1982, produziert von "Joachim Witt" (Goldener Reiter),
aufgenommen im Inner Space Studio der Kultband "CAN".
Dann beginnt eine Odyssee durch mehrere europäische Länder und Afrika,
die Xtian Shank nach einer Saharadurchquerung bis nach Ghana führt.
Fasziniert von der Naturreligion der Ashantis erfährt er eine spirituelle Ausbildung
und wird schließlich zum "Native Physician", ein Voodoo Priester mit staatlicher Lizenz.
Zurück in Deutschland erfolgt Mitte der 90er die Gründung des Drum ..n Bass Projekts
"Fetish Drums", zu deutsch Zaubertrommeln.
Bis 2002 entwickelt sich daraus eine Jamband mit sechs Musikern und drei Sängerinnen.
2003 erscheint die CD "Mp3olution" auf dem eigenen Label "Burnt Toast".
Mit über 11 Stunden Improvisationen das längste Musikalbum der Welt.
2004 macht die Band zehn erfolgreiche Auftritte in Norddeutschland, so auch ein
dreieinhalb Stunden Konzert auf der legendären "Faboulus Freak Party".
Nach 14 erfolgreichen Auftritten in den Jahren 2006 und 2007 performt die Voodoo Rock Band
Fetish Drums 2008 in neuer Besetzung fetter und unterhaltsamer denn je.
Mit Anke Harm (Vocals) und Xtian Shank (Vocals und Guitar) aus der Urbesetzung spielen
jetzt An D (again)(Guitar), Patric Schlüsselburg (Bass) ex Mountain Black Jetis und Kurt Rumpf (Drums).
Fetish Drums a musical Odyssee 1979 to 2007We write the Year 1979. Doc Metulski drummer of the progressive Rockband "Anonymos" and Xtian Shank, DJ in the biggest nothern german disco "Kaisersaal" met each other the first time in a dark cellar, to start their new wave experiments. Two years later Alfred Hilsberg from Hamburg proclaimed the "NDW" (German New Wave) and released the first "Schön" single on his label "Zick Zack". Diedrich Diederichsen most respected writer of the music magazin "Sounds" wrote: „[...] An extremely positive surprise is "Schön". Professionally-originally: Free funk with a hysteric gitarrero, somewhere between Sonny Sharrock, Adrian Belew and Hendrix and all around a for a trio unbelievably full-packed music. Schön - Nomen est Omen. [...]“ .
1982 "Schön" in the mean time grown to a sextett, released the first LP produced by "Joachim Witt" (No.1 hit - Goldener Reiter), recorded by "Rene Tinner" at the "Inner Space Studio" of the Cologne cultband "Can". The Album "Schön" sold eleven thousand copys in 1984. But than the turn came. The "Neue Deutsche Welle" died and "Schön" had to split. Doc Metulski and Xtian Shank, both always aware of their musical roots, started to travel, to search for the Origins. Doc went to India to study indian chanting and Xtian lived with the Ashantis in Ghana, where he became an examined Fetish Priest.
Twenty years later in 2002 both met again at Xtians "Klangstrom Studio" in order to continue their musical odyssey. The impressions of their research flowed into the new band, now called "Fetish Drums". Good friends joined the band, and in 2003 it came to a violent creative outbreak. More than twenty hours, predominantly improvised tracks were recorded at "Klangstrom" and published in the InterNet on the bands website. Excerpts from the guest book: "hey, great music you play in such a way there... it is to fly away, cool:) -... archaic Sound therapy...it rocks... Percussion reminds me on SANTANA and I love it!!!"
2004 the band is one of the most unusual german Livebands that sounds, despite their long history, unspent and fat. The newspaper "Segeberger Zeitung" wrote after the first appearance in May 2004: "The music of the "Fetish Drums" reaches stylistic from the "Krautrock" of the 70's up to Soul and Westcoast with beautiful singing harmonies. Their experience of many years was to be regarded and listened to, to the stood musicians - an appearance as from a solid casting."
The music of "Fetish Drums" lives on psychedelic crossover improvisations, which drag the audience along for dancing. Thus each concert of the group will become hot also a party. Songs from own feather form the master program, but in addition the Acidhymn "Purple Haze" of "Jimi Hendrix", the psychedelic Soultrack "Time Has Come Today" of the "Chambers Brothers" and the bands popular unique improvisations are to be heard in that two and a half hours appearance by "Fetish Drums".
In May 2004 the record label "Burnt Toast" released "Mp3olution" the probably longest playing album in musical history, with more than 11 hours of music. The 48 improvisations are all recorded live by machines at "Klangstrom" and are only mixed down. The uncut sessions do not contain any additional working on, not to falsify the original character of this lived music. The "Improlutions", a symbiosis from improvisation and revolution, develop in a special way. The musicians listen into the room and let themselves inspired by the tendencies, noises, and humans. In this jam sessions the music of the last 50 years is merged. Therefore "Fetish Drums" can not be assigned to a specific musical style, so they call themself an "All Style Band". Their goal is, to reach the soul of their listeners by music, in order to release the "Mental Dance", which can heal and make happy, while taking place in the body.
In December 2004 after a year of hard work on several venues, the band suddenly split. Some said because of the growing ambitions for Voodoo of Bandleader Xtian Shank and his partner El Donna Anke.
Now in 2006, after writing new songs and searching for new musicians without fear, a brand new band appears. Since then the new Fetish Drums are performing live, in clubs and on open air festivals, with their voodoo rock, including Dr. John..s "Walk On Gilded Splinters" as one of the highlights.
