A Dash of Noise

About Me

Born in Bellevue, Washington, to an environmental science major and a Caucasian, composer Stephen F. Lilly (a graduate of the University of Maryland, the Lionel Hampton School of Music, Kamiakin High School, and Sunset View Elementary) began life as a bass player. He has played with a cornucopia of illustrious unknowns including The Nick Garrett Band (NGB), Bucko-Bunny-Meister and the Flapjack Special, Ommadawn, TAFKA Dervish, The Washington-Idaho Symphony Orchestra, The Palouse Jazz Conspiracy, Not Too Shabby, C9, Lugnut, and Dyslexic Head. When Dr. Lilly is not looking for another place to squeeze in a phat-ass run, he composes the quasi-avant-garde electro-acoustic and non-traditional acoustic music you hear on this site (for instance, like staring at a word..., a work for DC-based soprano Stacey Mastrian based on the poetry of Ivan Molton) and teaches music theory at Towson University and digital audio production at the Art Institute of Washington. On a more private note, Dr. Lilly enjoys walks on the beach, the music of Agostino Di Scipio, books by Thomas Pynchon.
