PROPHETS of the NEW CENTURY, DOCTORS who DON’T want to HEAL,
HOPEFUL BEGGARS from the street & MEN without WILL.
Tramps & Horses was born out of a necessity to bring Vincent’s prose into musical fruition. With Deed, the Irish singing storyteller as his muse they played their music around Manchester. An old friend from the university days soon arrived on the scene with a six string in his hand going by the name of Sam Pedro. Tramps & Horses then created Enchanted Brave, a monthly musical night, where for 2 years they drew in their audience and plied their trade. It was in this time Mr Devlin, the long haired Irish man with the fingers of a guitarist and the boots of a bassist arrived all the way from Seattle. Now four strong, fate led them to a festival in Derby. And whilst searching in a field for a lost guitar they stumbled upon the Pirate Neil, a peace keeping rhythm man. Tramps & Horses are now a Manchester based band that some hail as political Poets. To pigeon hole them is a tough job, but their brilliant song writing skills, spiralling harmonies and spine tingling verve makes you sit up and take note. They have enjoyed radio, T.V. and festival appearances culminating at the end of 2007 with time spent in an 18th century cottage in Wales, recording a ten track demo album. They are an exciting and unique band with an ever growing diverse fan base, and are currently Recording their new 4 track E.P. Which will be available to buy near the end of the summer. Keep your ears and eyes peeled.
Demo Reviews
'.. sometimes they're an Anglicised version of the intense American gothic of Murder By Death, like on 'Solo Man', a cross between Nick Cave and Black Francis, or 'River Rising' with it's sense of impending doom: "The river keeps on rising, this fear, this rage / The river keeps on rising, I guess I'm gonna stay". At other times T&H are delicate and easy on the ear, such as the classic rockisms of the Scullion led 'Fast Flying Plane', which fills the gap in the lineage between The Byrds and Fleet Foxes... some of the best edgy folk around. A golden tapestry indeed.' Stephen Eddie, High Voltage Magazine more..
BBC Introducing Performance Review by Mick Cooper at Man Met Student Union
MMU's wonderfully titled MancUnion bar is a difficult venue play in. After all, it can be hard to get the atmosphere going when your adoring fans are also eating a reasonably priced lasagne whilst you play.Opening act Tramps & Horses just about managed it with a edgy and effortlessly cool folk performance, sounding and looking like the sexier, younger siblings of The Beautiful South.Manchester's folk scene at the moment is fantastic and it is acts like T&H who are leading it with genuinely intelligent song writing and make-your-head-nod bass lines. Vincent Taylor & Deidre Scullion's shared vocals need to be kept in check – tonight they are at times mesmerising and at others off-beat - but they are definitely worth another look
