About Me

MyGen Profile Generator At some point, I picked up a musical instrument and thought 'Hell, I can make a noise with this.' A little further along the road, I borrowed a 4-track and thought 'Hell, I can make a complicated and layered noise if I record this onto this (several times).' Further down the road and round a bend, I got a computer and some multitrack software. I didn't think anything, and sounds began to emerge.

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: www.unhipkid.co.uk (online design porfolio)
Band Members: UnhipKid: Often referred to as 'Dave.' Plays Keyboards, synth, guitar, bass, drum machine; sings; programs drums samples. Mostly in a slipshod fashion. Now also step-times and curses MIDI under breath.
Influences: Somewhere in my head is a sound. I'm trying to get that sound out. It's not easy and it always seems to sound like someone blowing their nose. There's probably a reason for that.
Sounds Like: Some geezer sitting on his own at a computer pressing buttons to see what happens. Some geezer sitting in his own head pressing buttons to see what happens. 'A latter-day, piano-ballad Prefab Sprout,' an English Ryan Adams. Shawn Smith, although I have no idea who he is. Kate Bush (apparently), Elvis Costello and an acoustic XTC. All these according to Rob Lee, so he is to be apportioned all credit or blame. I would maybe add an English Elliot Smith to the mix. I might occasionally sound a bit like Eels, Damien Rice or Tom McRae, but not on purpose.
Type of Label: Major

Winter Light

I've always thought that, during winter, a clear sky seems much bigger than it does through the summer. Maybe it's just me, but it always looks as though it's made of glass and could shatter at any mo...

Rooftop

When I was much younger, I had the advantage of part-owning (along with my brother) a Sega Master System, one of the very old ones which had 'Hang-On' built in instead of Alex Kidd. In fact, I wouldn'...

Captain

Okay, this is what happens when your primary aim with a remix is to make yourself laugh. 'Captain' was one of the first songs that Things We Lost In The Fire recorded and it was... okay. Learning how ...

Combining musical styles...

I've uploaded a new song called 'Sometimes they leave fingerprints.' It's sort of an experiment to combine the two musical styles I've been knocking around lately - normal singer-songwritery stuff and...

Things We Lost In The Fire

I have uploaded a remix of 'Things We Lost In The Fire.' As the band knows, we have had difficulty recording it, and it's basically my fault for not setting things up correctly. So for this special re...

Step-timed madness

As anyone who frequents this page knows, I'm not the type to regularly update. This is largely because I work 9 to 5.30, but also because I've been occupied more with the band I play in. I've been le...

Being won over by the soundtrack...

I've been quite liking the soundtrack recently, so here are two brand new, squeaky-clean, never-before-seen tunes. From me to you.Enjoy

One new song... in three different forms!

It's been a little while since I stopped by here; the hot weather in the UK followed by my stereo blowing up meant I haven't been recording very much. However, I have managed to produce these babies.T...

Yet another new song!

After recording 'Running Man' and 'The Man Who Wished He Had a Steel Body,' and being mostly happy with them, I wrote and recorded a new song very quickly. It's called 'Hangman' and I just had to shar...

New song shocker!

Yes, there is a new song here, going by the name 'From the Killing House.' I am working on other new songs (as well as some slightly older ones), which may or may not work their way onto this page of ...
