Add to My Profile | More Videos The Swell was formed in 2003 in Bloomington, Indiana by Johnzo West (vocals, guitar), joined by Nick Wyatt (bass), Travis Ellison (drums), and eventually Justin Shaw (drums). The Swell made their home base the Bluebird Nightclub, and from there ventured out to clubs, festivals, and universities throughout the midwest in support of their 2004 debut album 'Love Grenade'. In 2005 they recorded a 4-song EP called 'Say It Like You Mean It' and continued to headline shows as well as open for acts such as VHS or Beta, Dickey Betts of the Allman Brothers Band, the Benevento Russo Duo, and Robert Bradley's Blackwater Surprise . Later that year, after a farewell show at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indianapolis, the band relocated to Hungtington Beach, CA. They soon struck a deal with a Los Angeles based clothing line, and began performing regularly in LA and throughout southern California until their last show at The Viper Room in Hollywood June 25, 2006.
