Gnome and the Volcano are a Scottish-Italian band, who formed within the dank basement of an Indian boutique, in Leith, Edinburgh. They spend most of their time writing folk-rock music from the back of a fudge house, using a guitar once played by Mark Eitzel ("The Greatest Living Songwriter" - Spin/ Rolling Stone magazine). Difficult to categorise, GATV's music has been compared to everyone from Tom Waits to Mike Nesmith, from Wilco to Death Cab For Cutie.
GATV have one album waiting to be released, entitled Comfortable Corners. It sounds like Smog heading down the A9 with Ray Lamontagne strapped to the roofrack, the Heart of Midlothian beating firmly within their chest. And, in the last two years, have opened concerts for such criticially-acclaimed artists such as: American Music Club's Mark Eitzel, A-Ha's Magne Furuholmen, Stephen Fretwell, Australian Country Singer/Songwriter Anne McCue, Shooter Jennings and Aztec Camera's Roddy Frame.
Frontman and chief songwriter, Giancarlo Di Sotto, used to tour Italy in a Simple Minds tribute band. He now makes ice-cream on Edinburgh's Royal Mile for a living. The nephew of the first-ever TV chef, Di Sotto's band is named after the ying-yang contrast between himself and his piano-playing brother, Paolo.
