Intelligent, open-minded individuals who are more satisfied with insightful conversations, experiencing new things, or expressing themselves through a craft than with mindless partying, idle banter and manufactured drama. Mindless partying is fun, especially if dancing all crazy to loud music is involved, but social discourse and building rapports with people has more lasting meaning to me.
The scope of my musical taste is very wide and reaches to far ends of the spectrum. Here's a small selection of my favorites over the years:
Beastie Boys, The Beatles, Ben Folds (Five), Benny Goodman, Billy Joel, The Black Keys, Blues Traveler, Bob Dylan, Bob Marley & The Wailers, Boards of Canada, Boston, Bruce Springsteen, Buckethead, Cake, Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band, The Cars, The Chemical Brothers, Cream, The Crystal Method, Daft Punk, David Peel & The Lower East Side, Devo, The Doors, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Eric Clapton, Eric Johnson, Fatboy Slim, Frank Sinatra, Frank Zappa, Franz Liszt, George Clinton, The Go! Team, Grateful Dead, Groove Armada, Incubus, Jack Johnson, Jimi Hendrix, Joe Satriani, John Coltrane, John Lennon, Les Claypool, Louis Armstrong, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Megadeth, Miles Davis, Nine Inch Nails, Nirvana, Ozzy Osbourne, Pantera, Paul Oakenfold, Phish, The Prodigy, Queen, Rapid Ric, Ratatat, Raymond Scott, The Rolling Stones, Run-D.M.C., Rush, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Steve Vai, Sublime, Presidents of the United States of America, They Might Be Giants, Wesley Willis, Ween, ZZ Top
I can respect almost all types of music. Types that I do not particularly enjoy, though, are vocal pop, country (less the likes of Willie and Cash), loud and abrasive music, and most rap. I will enjoy what I'm listening to, and barring that, will phase it out.
Bill Hicks, Franz Liszt, Hunter S. Thompson, Jerry Garcia, John Coltrane, John Lennon
