Humor, dedication, and passion. These three words sum up the St. Mary’s High School student band, Look For Amity. The pastime of juniors (now seniors) Lauren “Kidd” Pietrocola and Thomas Jordan “TJ” Berlingerio has skyrocketed them to Myspace stardom. It may come as a surprise, but the up-and-coming band was formed at St. Mary’s Music Club.
“He didn’t think I could play guitar because I was a girl,” Lauren says in reference to her band mate TJ. “Then he realized that he liked how I played, and we soon began playing songs together in freshman year”.
Look For Amity began as TJ’s solo project, which Lauren joined in late 2007. “I came up with the name because these songs were anonymous and I didn’t want to name it TJ’s Band,” TJ jokes.
“We live two blocks away from each other, and we recently started recording,” says Berlingerio. Whether it was fate or sheer coincidence the moment that Pietrocola and Berlingerio began recording their songs together, it was immediately evident that “musical chemistry” was at work.
The talented pair primarily began recording songs they created. Inspirations for their songs span from heartbreaks to the constant demands from fans to hear new music. “There are people from all over saying that they like our music- from Africa to Canada to Europe” says Pietrocola.
Their sound, self described as experimental indie power pop has been positively received. Look For Amity’s first song “Forgetting You Is Easier Said Than Done” which was released on Myspace.com was warmly received. This positive reception caused them to record an excess of additional songs, including “Pulling Plugs Instead Of Winning” which earned them spots on three of Myspace.com’s charts, including number 83 on the acoustic charts, number 35 on the power pop charts, and 25 on the indie unsigned artist charts for all of New York.
The future of Look For Amity is as bright as its members. When asked if they longed to pursue music as a career, both Pietrocola and Berlingerio agree that they hope to keep their band small, playing local shows for now. Although Berlingerio and Pietrocola desire to keep their band local, it’s only a matter of time before St. Mary’s High School’s hidden secret is revealed to an eager public. real editor best profile tools real
